Driving Volkswagen’s recently upgraded Tiguan Allspace SUV – the entry 2.0-
litre 147KW turbo-diesel Elegance Allspace in seven-speed dual clutch automatic
driving through Volkswagen’s four-motion all-wheel drive system. All up with
options $68,375 drive-away. A very competent prestige SUV, climbing in price like
a lot of SUV’s in the last twelve months but offset by a high feature and
equipment list. Although some features like the power rear door may be deleted
on certain models due to the current semi-conductor shortage. As a driver the
147kW Tiguan Allspace with 400Nm of torque offers great performance around
town with effortless pulling power on lower revs. The seven-speed dual clutch
automatic displaying some characteristic hesitancy at times from rest but
underway providing supersmooth changes. The Elegance Allspace also gets
paddle shifters on the steering wheel for those that like to drive in manual and
sports mode. Whilst you may prefer the 162kW turbo petrol Tiquan Allspace the
diesel is very frugal, I managed 6.3L/100km, but of course you are paying more
for diesel fuel. Ride quality is right up there on the Allspace Elegance, the 19-inch
alloy wheels sensibly shod with very compliant 50-series tyres. Yes, it’s grown in
price but this German SUV has also grown in features. I’m David Berthon.
