The 92nd vurt podcast features a two-hour DJ set from Jay Galligan, a key figure in the Irish techno underground, originally from Dublin and now based in Bristol. This set was recorded at the New Grass festival in Brandenburg, 2026.
Growing up in late 90s and early 00s Dublin, Jay’s instinct for catching a mood and manipulating grooves was shaped by a city whose electronic scene was fiercely organic, communal, and forward-thinking. A talented musician in his own right, he first came through guitar, grunge, indie and shoegaze bands before being pulled into the gravitational force of Detroit techno, electro and full-throttle machine music — part of a generation of My Bloody Valentine devotees who found new futures in the pulse of the dancefloor. Jay soon found himself at the centre of Dublin’s movement, holding a residency at the legendary Electric City and running his own night, TEST, for over a decade. Through these crucial parties, he became a trusted standard bearer for proper underground techno, playing alongside artists including Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Ben Klock, Surgeon, Dopplereffekt and Regis. A consummate digger and a demon on the wheels, Jay brings remarkable knowledge and forensic mixing ability to the floor, building sets with unbelievable momentum and direct dancefloor control. His sound sits somewhere between the recent past and the far future: nail-biting techno machinery colliding with future-shock electro, evoking everything from the low ceilings of Tresor to the depths of a Drexiyan submarine. Now resident in Bristol, where he is part of The Probe, Jay continues to carve out his own no-nonsense vision of spaceship music. With over 20 years of devotion to whatever we might call “proper” techno these days, his sets oscillate with grit, precision and energy — a sound built for heads, dancers and late-night believers alike. These days, he has also turned his attention to producing finely crafted radio shows, continuing to share the depth of his musical knowledge beyond the club.
