While power has been restored at Perth Airport after an outage caused by a thunderstorm, there are still thousands of homes across the metropolitan area in the dark.
Acting executive for asset operations at Western Power, Zane Christmas, said some crews worked throughout the evening to restore power to homes in the suburbs.
"We've got about 4000 customers without power in the metro and close to 4,000 in the South West," he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.
WA Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Jessica Lingard said record wind gusts around the metro area caused 9.5 m swells at Rottnest and Garden islands but relief was in sight.
"Then through this afternoon we'll see some easing of the winds but the systems that have been causing these winds are slowly moving to the east," she said.
