Public secondary schools educate over 70% of Nigerian children, yet across the Federal Capital Territory, computer and science laboratories sit locked, gathering dust, or completely unequipped. When a single working computer must serve an entire school, young girls are systematically pushed to the margins.
How do we bridge the gap between ambitious national digital policies and the reality of a girl in a public school in Kuje, Kwali, or Abaji?
Following last week’s episode with 2022 WAAW Scholar and First Class Computer Engineering graduate Faith Onyemaechi, we shift the lens from the student frontlines to national policy. In this episode, our Executive Director, Timi Onafeso sits down with Kyuka Ibrahim Avong, Director of Digital Enablement in the Office of the Technical Advisor to the President on Economic and Financial Inclusion (PreCEFI).
Drawing directly from WAAW Foundation’s recent FCT Baseline Survey, this episode confronts the systemic bottlenecks in STEM education—from unbankable schools and power shortages to bridging the inclusion divide beyond central Abuja.
