Welcome to the We Are Dads Too podcast. Dads For Life is a national fathering movement that started in 2009 to inspire, mobilise and involve fathers to become good influences in their children’s lives - for life! Numerous studies have found that children do better in nearly all areas of life when they have involved fathers as compared to children with absent fathers. Behind this movement is the Centre for Fathering, a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower fathers to strengthen families. It offers programmes and workshops to equip fathers in all life stages to become effective dads. In 2016, a group of volunteers of the Centre for Fathering came together to focus their efforts on equipping and empowering fathers within the Malay Muslim community in Singapore. It was the birth of Bapa Sepanjang Hayat, or BSH for short. Today, we have with us Surafian, a father of 4 and has been a volunteer with BSH for a number of years.

Welcome to the We Are Dads Too podcast.  Teachers play a very significant role in all our lives. For at least a decade of our existence, teachers have been helping us learn and grow as a whole person. One day in a year is set aside to show our appreciation to our teachers, and rightly so because apart from providing instruction in the classroom they also accompany students on field trips, conduct extra or remedial classes, help with the organization of school functions, and serve as supervisors for co-curricular activities. How one person is able to bear so many responsibilities at the same time confounds and evokes great respect from us all.    Because Teacher's Day being just around the corner, this episode will be dedicated to all the teachers who have played such a significant role in our children's lives. And to help us understand the work that teachers do, we have as our guest Andrew Kang.  Andrew Kang is a former MOE Vice-Principal and NIE External Consultant. Education seems to be in Andrew's blood because even after leaving the teaching job, he went on to start a company to reimagine learning. Andrew is also a dad. The ages of his children are 18, 16, 14, 11.

Caring about others is a heroic act by itself. 

As we (children) are busy growing up, we tend to forget that our parents are growing old at the same time. And the most precious things we can give to our elders are time, love, and care. 

@wearedadstoo knows that caregiving for our elders has never been a walk in the park.

With the empowering culture of care involving every level of society from the school, youths, employers, neighbours, doctors and nurses to the friendly aging policy changes in the government. 

We can have compassion, empathy, and a culture of care as a reality.

The above conversation might sound normal with the son being considerate and caring. But, to have these values inculcated actually takes a lot of practice in a family household.

There are a lot of family values, but what we can do is to choose and pick those values that we can put into action on a daily basis. The more the values are being practiced, the more it becomes second nature to the family.
