I first got to know Bill Boyle from his insights and analysis at Stand Up with Pete Dominick. While Bill’s day job is owning a series of parking garages around the DC Metro area, his real genius is breaking down complex information into discernible chunks. I have learned as much from him about the war in Ukraine as I have from any single outlet. 

Bill is not a journalist, and would never promote himself as such, but he has an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. He’s incredibly well read, well sourced and well traveled. He has had the good fortune to see much of the world, and to understand the context behind it. 

Through his deep love and fascination with history, his Irish roots, and his fondness for great wordplay it was impossible for a young Bill Boyle to not fall head over heels for the Pogues. Bill and I talk about our own personal histories with the band, some of MacGowan’s greatest lyrical moments, why the band still matters, and likely always will.

We actually begin our conversation on what makes a great dive bar, which is a terrific segue into the MacGowan chat. After we pay tribute to the Prince of The Pogues, Bill and I dive into a discussion of the Wong Kar Wai classic, Chungking Express. 

It’s a great, and fluid conversation that somehow all seems to make sense, at least to the two of us. I hope you dig it.
