The other day a lady said she was worried about the future of America: I said we cannot control what God has plan; it is not about Biden. Trump, BLM, antifa none of these matters: we must emulate Paul press on as it is written in Philippians 3:14, NIV: "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Now Paul has used the analogy of a runner who focuses on the goal ahead of him. This prevents distractions and stumbling. Paul's spiritual goal is stated directly here: "the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  We also we are not to fear or worry: The Bible clearly teaches that Christians are not to worry. In Philippians 4:6, we are commanded, “Do not be anxious [do not worry] about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” In this Scripture, we learn that we should bring all our needs and concerns to God in prayer rather than worry about them. Jesus encourages us to avoid worrying about our physical needs like clothing and food. Jesus assures us that our heavenly Father will take care of all our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Therefore, we have no need to worry about anything.

Since worrying should not be a part of a believer’s life, how does one overcome worry? In 1 Peter 5:7, we are instructed to “cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God does not want us to carry around the weight of problems and burdens. In this verse, God is telling us to give Him all our worries and concerns. Why does God want to take on our problems? The Bible says it is because He cares for us. God is concerned about everything that happens to us. No worry is too big or too small for His attention. When we give God our problems, He promises to give us the peace which transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Of course, for those who do not know the Savior, worry and anxiety will be part of life. But to those who have given their lives to Him, Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.    Now I really do not know if America is mention in the word of God (the Bible) Why is the United States of America never mentioned in Bible prophecy? This could be for several reasons: (1) Perhaps the United States does not play an important role in the end times. (2) Perhaps the United States does not exist anymore once the end times begin. (3) Perhaps the United States is included with all the other nations that reject God in the end times (Revelation 10:11; 11:18; 12:5; 14:8; 15:4; 16:19; 17:15; 18:3,23; 19:15). Option (3) is the most likely answer. The United States of America is the biggest supporter of Israel in the world today. This might not always be the case. However, there are biblical statements about what the nations in general will be doing during the tribulation period. Passages like Haggai 2:6-7, Isaiah 66:18-20, and Zechariah 12:2-3 speak of all the nations involved in end-time events. These kinds of references clearly, I believe will include the United States in their fulfillment. However, we still must pray for our nation and its leaders

We often hear the words “Hindsight is 20/20,” but I want to share these words with you today; “2020 is Hindsight”.

I have been waiting to share those words for many months as the year 2020 held challenges we have never seen before. Individuals, families, churches, businesses, and governments worldwide have been impacted due to the Global Pandemic.

I do not want to be a “downer,” but I think it is essential to give a reminder that simply because the calendar has now flipped to a New Year does not mean all our troubles are behind us. I have little doubt that 2021 will still hold many situations that will require us to look to God for answers.

As a Church, we have done our best to be faith-filled while responding to things and events that came up. I often say light-heartedly, “they never taught this in Bible School or Seminary.” In other words, there was no “Pandemic 101” class!

As we forge ahead into 2021, isn't it good to know that we serve a God who never changes? Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

While this past year may have left a few scars along the way in all our lives, I pray that we do not dwell on those things. May we have the strength to look back and learn but look forward and be inspired!

The Apostle Paul saw this as vital to continual growth in God. Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV) 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

As we look forward to 2021, experience tells us that we have no idea all the New Year will hold. Yet, we can also rest assured that the same God who brought us through this past year will continue to be there for us “if” we reach out to Him.

There is a beautiful old song that has a line like this: “Many things about tomorrow I don't seem to understand, but I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand.”

2020 is Hindsight! Now, on to 2021! May it be a year that we ALL grow closer to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Several Scriptures describe the hand of God moving and guiding people (1 Samuel 5:11; 2 Chronicles 30:12; Job 19:21; 27:11; Ecclesiastes 2:24; 9:1). These passages do not mean that God literally has a hand. The Bible declares that God is spirit (John 4:24), that He does not, in His essence, have a physical form. However, this does not mean that God is incapable of taking on a physical form; numerous times in Scripture God does take a physical form. The hand of God is not speaking of a literal body part. Rather, just as a father lovingly guides and patiently disciplines a child with his hand, so are we guided by the hand of God.

Cancel Imperfect People?

If we ever decided to CANCEL imperfect people from the Bible, we would be left with only one person… Jesus Christ.

God left the imperfect ones in the Word so that the contrast between perfection and imperfection would be crystal clear.

Also, we can learn lessons of failure and success from people who have tried, failed, got back up, and tried again—David, Peter, Thomas, Moses, Samson, etc.

The message is clear. Leave the imperfect examples there so we can learn what “not” to be like but leave Jesus alone so we can learn WHO to be like.

In this world of “cancel culture,” there is only one who can genuinely cancel or remove our past sins and failures, and His Name is Jesus.

Dear God,

Thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for all that you have allowed into our lives this past year, the good along with the hard things, COVID-19 election unrest murder in the streets and more, which have reminded us how much we need you and rely on your presence filling us every single day.

We pray for your Spirit to lead us each step of this New Year. We ask that you guide our decisions and turn our hearts to deeply desire you above all else. We ask that you open doors needing to be opened and close the ones needing to be shut tight. We ask that you help us release our grip on the things to which you have said “no,” “not yet,” or “wait.” We ask for help to pursue you first, above every dream and desire you have put within our hearts.

We ask for your wisdom, for your strength and power to be constantly present within us. We pray you would make us strong and courageous for the road ahead. Give us ability beyond what we feel able, let your gifts flow freely through us, so that you would be honored by our lives, and others would be drawn to you.

But beyond that, we must see and serve “the least of these” because in this we can better know that our service is rendered to God for love of him and for his glory. Serving those who are of worldly importance, especially those who can return the favor (Lk 14:12), is not wrong, but the motive for such service could always be in question, especially if the kind of service that Jesus is describing never occurs.

In the parable of the sheep and the goats, neither the sheep nor the goats expected the response of the master. The sheep are surprised that they were serving Christ by serving the least of these. The goats were surprised that they were failing Christ by failing the least of these. The goal here would be to do all things and render all service to all people for the glory of God and the sake of the Gospel.

CHRISTMAS BLESSING

This year 2020 will soon be in our past, and honestly for me, it cannot come a moment too soon! This year has been months of difficulty on so many levels, for so many people. With the effects of a worldwide Pandemic still taking place, it seems there are many reasons for Hope. While there are varied opinions about a vaccine and what hope it provides, there can be no doubt, many are believing for the best.

I want to take a moment to remind all of you once again of the fact that in Christ “hope came down” to dwell among us over 2,000 years ago. He continues to dwell here by the power of the Holy Spirit and, through His death and resurrection, provided the perfect “vaccine” for humanity's sin problem!

You and I we might be walking through what might seem to be a hopeless situation right now during this Christmas Season. If you and I continue to cast our gaze and focus upon Jesus, you and I will never be disappointed. Perhaps it will take years later to look back and appreciate the way God led you and I, but He has a way of bringing hope into every situation.

During this time of year, my mind always does a little wandering as I see people at Walmart yes, I am a Walmart shopper or target and other stores filled with people rushing to get the latest and greatest deal, and I wonder if people really do realize what this special day and season is all about!

I see people with their arms full of items that may never darken the door of a church at any time during the year but still knowingly or unknowingly celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Me personally I cannot imagine Christmas without Christ – Quite honestly, I believe that Christmas without Christ must be a “mess.”

There is a beautiful story in the Bible of a man named Simeon, who was finally able to see the fulfillment of prophecy and expressed his appreciation and gratefulness to God.

Luke 2:28-32 (NIV) 28 Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: 29 “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you now dismiss your servant in peace. 30 For my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which you have prepared in the sight of all people, 32 a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel.”

Many had prophesied for hundreds of years that a Messiah would be born, which would bring help and deliverance to God's people, and Simeon was walking in the Spirit enough to realize when He was in the presence of this Newborn King.

There was no doubt many babies going through the temple doors that day, but there was something about this child that was different from any other baby. There was something different about these parents that set them apart from the others, and Simeon was able to recognize Hope that had made the Journey from the glories of Heaven to be born in a lowly stable.

We, I cannot even begin to imagine the monumental leap Jesus took to come to earth with our finite and limited minds. Yet, if our hearts are open to the leading of the Spirit, we will recognize Hope when it is made available in our lives.

Aren't you glad Hope came down? He will meet you at the core of your need. He is a wonderful Savior!
