Scott Faughn from the Missouri Times discusses the importance of what plays out politically at the State Fair in Sedalia.

Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe says the state fair in Sedalia had record attendance on Saturday. Lt. Governor Kehoe, who's seeking Missouri's GOP gubernatorial nomination, joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri." Kehoe has been endorsed by several commodity groups, including the Missouri Cattlemen's Association, Missouri Corn Growers Association and Missouri Dairy. Lt. Governor Kehoe has high praise for the State Fair's volunteer fire department in Sedalia. He says it's the only full operating fire department for 12 days in the nation. Mr. Kehoe tells listeners that the budget signed into law by Missouri Governor Mike Parson will make several repairs to the aging fire house, which has a leaky roof and other issues. Lt. Governor Kehoe is also praising Tuesday's drive to feed kids event at the state fair. The Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) says one in seven Missouri children is food insecure. Mr. Kehoe praises Bernie-based Martin Rice for donating all of the rice for tomorrow's food packing:

Missouri Department of Agriculture (MDA) director Chris Chinn describes the state fair in Sedalia as the largest family reunion for agriculture. Director Chinn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", praising opening day's weather and turnout. She tells listeners there was great weather, great attendance and lots of smiles. Director Chinn describes the state fair as the largest family reunion for agriculture. Director Chinn says less than 200 tickets remain for next Thursday's big Governor's ham breakfast at the Nucor pavilion. She also says hunger is an issue that Missouri's farmers and ranchers continue to address. The drive to food kids event is Tuesday in Sedalia. Director Chinn says more than 800 FFA students will be on the fairgrounds, aiming to pack more than 150,000 meals. State Sen. William Eigel (R-Weldon Spring) says the status quo is responsible for Tyson Foods' decision to close chicken plants in southeast Missouri's Dexter and in southwest Missouri's Noel. Senator Eigel joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that Missouri Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe and Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft are part of the status quo. Kehoe and Ashcroft are Senator Eigel's rivals for Missouri's GOP gubernatorial nomination in 2024. Senator Eigel is calling for the elimination of all personal property taxes and for elimination of the state income tax. He tells listeners that it's time for Missouri to emulate Florida and Tennessee, saying local governments are seeing record revenue. Senator Eigel is also ecstatic about the upcoming six-laning of I-70 across Missouri:

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft describes Tyson Foods as a bright spot in rural Missouri. He's worried about Tyson's decision to close meat plants in southwest Missouri's Noel and in southeast Missouri's Dexter. Secretary Ashcroft tells 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" that Missouri has not had the relationship with Tyson that it should have, adding that Tyson has been made to feel unwelcome in the Show-Me State. Mr. Ashcroft, who's seeking the GOP gubernatorial nomination, also weighed in on the defeat of Ohio's Issue 1, which would have raised the threshold for approving state constitutional amendments. Ashcroft tells listeners that we should not be a democracy but a constitutional republic with certain rights. He says pro-life candidates in Missouri have won consistently at the polls. He also says about 130 initiative petitions have been filed with his office:

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) says he's filed 28 lawsuits against President Joe Biden. General Bailey joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that Missouri vs. Biden will be in circuit court this week. Bailey describes the case as the most important First Amendment case in a generation. He also discussed abortion and his office's cold case unit. The unit helped secure the recent conviction of Kirby King for the 1987 Franklin County murder of Karla Delcour. General Bailey praises the cold case unit's 22 prosecutors, saying they have a combined experience of hundreds of years:
