Missouri Times publisher Scott Faughn says Missouri's 2024 GOP gubernatorial primary is leaning toward a competitive race between Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe and State Sen. William Eigel (R-Weldon Spring). Faughn says Senator Eigel has become a serious threat in this race. He also emphasizes the importance of rural radio ads to Missouri GOP candidates in primary and general elections. Mr. Faughn also weighed in on Missouri's 2024 Democratic primary for attorney general, as race that features State Rep. Sarah Unsicker (D-Shrewsbury) and Elad Gross:

U.S. Rep. Mark Alford (R-Raymore) serves on the House Agriculture Committee in Washington. His sprawling west-central Missouri district includes Columbia, Sedalia, Warrensburg and Centralia. He's inviting farmers and all residents to an August 14th listening session at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. He wants your input on what you want to see in the upcoming federal farm bill. Congressman Alford is inviting U-S Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to the meeting. He also says House Agriculture Committee chair GT Thompson (R-Pennsylvania) will be attending, as will Missouri Governor Mike Parson, state Department of Agriculture director Chris Chinn and commodity groups like the Missouri Corn Growers Association. Congressman Alford joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", saying the current drought is hurting farmers in his district who cannot find food for their cows. Missouri’s 54th governor is back in Jefferson City for today's 1:30 unveiling of his official portrait. It will take place in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda. Former Governor Matt Blunt (R) was elected governor in 2004 at the age of 33, making him the second-youngest governor elected in state history. He served as governor from 2005-2008 and was secretary of state before that, serving from 2001-2004. He beat then-Missouri House Speaker Steve Gaw (D-Moberly) in the secretary of state’s race in 2000. He narrowly defeated then-Auditor Claire McCaskill (D) in Missouri's 2004 gubernatorial race. Missouri Governor Mike Parson hosts today's 1:30 portrait unveiling. Parson deputy chief of staff Kelli Jones tells 939 the Eagle that they’re expecting a crowd of about 50 people, which include Governor Parson, former Governor Blunt and his family and Lt. Governor Mike Kehoe. Former Governor Blunt joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", telling listeners that he's seen a photo of the portrait and that he's impressed. He says one of his best memories as governor was his wife Melanie having their first child in 2005, William Branch. State Rep. Jim Schulte (R-New Bloomfield) represents Callaway County in the Missouri House. Representative Schulte joined us live this morning on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri." He suggests that there are more than enough votes in the GOP-controlled Missouri House to override several of Governor Mike Parson's (R) line-item vetoes, but says the key question is what the Senate will do. He also weighs in on this week's sale of Fulton Ford to McLarty Automotive Group, saying a number of smaller automobile dealers in the region have been selling to larger groups:

U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R) says St. Louis-area residents have had their water, air and soil poisoned by radioactive waste that dates back to World War II. Senator Hawley says those residents are asking for justice, not a handout. State Sen. Travis Fitzwater (R-Holts Summit), whose district includes part of St. Charles County, says there's been a significant rise in cancer in the St. Charles area, due to the radioactive waste. He says drinking water has also been impacted. Senator Fitzwater joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" and expresses frustration that his Senate resolution to expand the federal Radiation Exposure Compensation Act died in May due to GOP filibuster infighting in the Senate. Senator Fitzwater's SCR 16 would have expanded the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act to include Missourians exposed to nuclear waste from the Manhattan project:

Last week, state senator and gubernatorial candidate Bill Eigel criticized Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft over his handling of recent initiative petitions that made it to the election ballot. Ashcroft joined Wake Up Mid-Missouri on Monday to respond to the criticisms and discuss his own 2024 campaign for Missouri governor.

State Sen. William Eigel (R-Weldon Spring) says Republicans need to get back to the founding principles of the GOP platform. He's seeking Missouri's GOP gubernatorial nomination in 2024 and says voters want someone who will challenge the coalitions that he says are entrenched in Jefferson City. Senator Eigel joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", and blasts the $50-billion budget signed into law by GOP governor Mike Parson. Senator Eigel says the state budget has doubled since 2010 and that it's grown during each of his seven years in Jefferson City. He says GOP Governors Eric Greitens and Mike Parson have grown the size of state government during the past seven years larger than any Democratic governor combined before them. Eigel also blasts Senate Appropriations Committee chairman Lincoln Hough (R-Springfield) during the interview, saying chairman Hough put "boondoggles" in the state budget, including a dinosaur museum in Jefferson County:
