Columbia police chief Geoff Jones will retire effective August 1. He joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri". He's been police chief sine 2019. Chief Jones tells listeners that he told then-city manager John Glascock that he would stay for three to five years, when he became chief in 2019. He says he's been thinking about retiring for months, well before the Harpo's incident. Chief Jones tells listeners that he wants to spend more time with his family and children. He also says he's never felt more supported by the city council. He joined us in-studio on 939 the Eagle and NewsRadio 950 KWOS:

"Missouri Times" publisher Scott Faughn expects this to be a big quarter for GOP gubernatorial candidate Jay Ashcroft, describing him as the front-runner in the primary race. Faughn joined us live on 939 the Eagle's "Wake Up Mid-Missouri" this morning, telling listeners that GOP lieutenant governor candidate Mike Kehoe has shown he's able to go negative on Ashcroft. As for Missouri Democrats, Faughn says they have a thin bench for gubernatorial candidates in 2024 but says House Minority Leader Crystal Quade (D-Springfield) is a potential star. He says Leader Quade has helped Missouri House Democrats pick up seats in the two two election cycles:

The Columbia Police Officers Association (CPOA) is asking residents to attend tonight’s city council meeting to support law enforcement. Attorney Donald Weaver will address the council tonight and is expected to call on them to support law enforcement. The CPOA says criminals in Columbia have become more emboldened, noting a suspect recently allegedly tried to rape women on the MKT trail in broad daylight. The CPOA also says “pedestrians downtown and elsewhere can routinely be seen harassing others, littering and even defecating on the streets and sidewalks.” CPOA President Matt Nichols joined us live on "Wake Up Mid-Missouri", and praises police chief Geoff Jones and city manager De'Carlon Seewood. He's critical of the council vote on FUSUS and blasts what he describes as "crazy activists" who speak at council meetings, saying they bully the council:
