Wake Up Sydney with Johnny Rocket brings you the latest weather, traffic and train updates for Sydney on Sunday, 9 August 2026.
Sydney is in for a mild but increasingly showery Sunday. The CBD starts at 9°C and climbs to 20°C, Parramatta begins at a chilly 6°C with a top of 19°C, while Bondi sits around 11.9°C and is expected to reach 18°C. Showers are set to build throughout the day, so keep an umbrella handy — especially if you’re heading to Bondi for City2Surf.
On the roads, traffic is mostly light, but there is one key incident to watch: a two-car crash at Riverwood on the M5 Motorway westbound off-ramp to Belmore Road. Crews are on site, and delays are likely in the area.
The biggest transport impact today is City2Surf, starting at 10am from Hyde Park and finishing at Bondi. Expect major road closures, detours and heavier movement through the CBD and eastern suburbs as runners and spectators make their way across the course.
For train passengers, weekend trackwork continues across the T1 Western, T2 Leppington and T3 Liverpool lines, with changed timetables and stopping patterns. Richmond services are running between Richmond and Liverpool only, with passengers needing to change at Parramatta. Other trips may require changes at Glenfield, Parramatta, Lidcombe, Cabramatta or Strathfield.
Buses are replacing trains between Olympic Park and Lidcombe, and the rear carriage on Tangara trains remains closed due to security measures. Johnny urges listeners to check transport apps, plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
