When you feel irritated by your spouse, your co-workers, your kids, neighbors or anyone... it's easy to think, "if only they would stop doing what they're doing". Here's the deal... people are people-y and do people-y things. That includes you. I offer some thoughts on what you can do instead of being annoyed by everyone around you.
A little bonus content: at the end of the episode, I have a conversation with my son Anthony who's about to begin his first year of college.

I had to give a speech on confidence recently to a group of business owners. Ironically, I didn't feel all that confident myself. When you are plagued with self doubt and insecurity, you can coach yourself out of that and into a place of confidence. Listen as I explain how to do this.

When you receive news you don't like, how do you handle it? Do you resist it, fight against it, get caught up in anger, and then turn to unhealthy and unhelpful behaviors to cope?
That doesn't work. Radical Acceptance does help. Radical Acceptance is when you stop fighting reality, stop responding with impulsive or destructive behaviors when things aren't going the way you want them to, and let go of bitterness that may be keeping you trapped in a cycle of suffering.
Listen to this episode as I share how I'm using Radical Acceptance to deal with a terrible situation in my life right now. And doing so is helping me see what forward movement looks like. It can do this for you too.

If you find yourself constantly saying YES when you want to say NO, you probably feel resentful. Learning how to say "no" is good self-care. No is a complete sentence. You can say no without apology or over-explanation. This will make room for your "yes"!

What is she wearing?! I knew their marriage would never last... I mean do you hear how she talks to him? She hasn't aged well at all.
Be honest. Do you say things like that? When we are being judgmental, it's usually because we are feeling bad about ourselves. Or maybe it's because we are so desensitized to it in this overly critical culture. Listen as I talk more about why we judge, why it's a problem, and we can let go of judgment to make way for compassion.

This title tells you nothing about this episode. But trust me, the Native American parable of the Two Wolves is a good one. It reminds us that we have CHOICE over how we think. We all have a fight between two wolves going on inside of us. One is a wolf of evil, anger, bitterness, resentment and self pity. The other wolf is one of love, faith, truth, joy and peace. Which wolf are you feeding? I have been feeding the wrong one for a while. And it has cost me so much. In this episode I share how the wolf of love can win.
I know this sounds a little weird... just listen.

I don't care if you think affirmations are hokey. They really work! I share some I practice on the daily. Remove the negative thoughts and tell yourself these five things until you believe them.

If you get triggered by something, what do you do? Do you REACT or RESPOND? Being reactive often means we're letting our emotions run our lives. There are ways to ground yourself and choose how to respond to any situation, no matter how difficult it might be. In this episode I talk with marriage and family therapist Lisa Ayala about how to do this work to improve relationships and ease your suffering.
Side note: Lisa and I have been dear friends since we were 8 years old. We have spent thousands of hours on phone calls over the years and she has taught me so much.
