Racism is a highly sensitive subject so I will do my best to not only define it but to also propose a new supportive viewpoint.
Racism, also referred to as Racialism is consciously defined by a set of actions, practices or beliefs reflective of ideologies that make it justifiable to divide humans into invisible categories of exclusively biological containers called races. Due to the unconscious adapted behavioral traits and certain cultural or behavioral features exhibited by some races and not others their may be an underlying bias that there is superiority among some races.
Do you see the problem and where the segregation can arise from? Now consider the possibility that…
Racism is simply an expression of human conflict that has developed from our evolved capacity as humans to function together collectively in groups. Our reliance on our individual self defines everyone else that can be considered as a them within the frame of our world.
As a result of society functioning in groups the conflict arises when one group becomes classified as the out-group at which point they begin operating from a place of hate. At this point the out or hate group is a mirror image of the in-group, which is operating from a place of love.
By expressing racism in this manner it eliminates the notion of right and wrong and boils racism down to a concept of good and evil.
From this viewpoint of good and evil we can simply define racism as (unearned power) fear and extreme greed.
If the out or hate group is operating from a place of fear and greed it can become toxic and addictive. They can never get enough material objects because what they really crave, what they fear to truly have can not be bought with greed. These haters or racists are chasing power and wealth but what they do not know is that their heart really desires is love, intimacy, connection, self-acceptance and rich relationships.
Now that you are aware, how can you approach racism differently? The change starts with you and you can hear more tips in today’s podcast.
