Tiana Did 'Walk In My Soul'
Yes, as I read yet another book by Lucia St Clair Robson, Tiana, the Cherokee girl, did walk in my soul. I could hardly put the book down. Having now read all but one book of Ms. Robson's, I can say without reservation that she is one outstanding author of historical fiction. She has a way of drawing the reader into the lives of her characters. I love that she explains so well the flora and fauna of each area, the customs of the people groups involved in the story, as well as the historical events and settings of the times. Truly one of my favorite authors. This is a book I will remember years from now.
A Love Story Hidden Among the Building Blocks of History
The story of the reknowned historical figure, Sam Houston, who grew up among the Cherokees and fell in love with a young Cherokee woman, reveals the seldom-discussed side of the personal connection between Native Americans and those whose ancestors took their continent. The Cherokee used the phrase "he/she walks in my soul" to describe that deep connection that is often expressed in English as "he/she is my soul mate." This story will help you to see a more personal, human side of history that you might otherwise not have known.
Have read this book more than once. It is ...
Have read this book more than once. It is based on fact and covers the life and those who are in her life from early childhood until the end. Sam Houston is a big part of her story. Based on fact means that the writer researched the facts and then wrote it in a more readable manner than fact. Fact is based on actual documents, i.e. tribal logs, letters, diaries and any other written material with only a few sentences to assist in readability.
Great historical story
It is cLear that much research went into ensuring that this wonderful tale was based on and framed by accurate accounts and facts of the Larger events that occurred. Most enjoyable to read ,
Tirana transends the tragedies and bigotry to remain the heroine .
A Long But Good Read
This book is several pages long, but WELL WORTH reading! I learned so much about the Cherokees...Its interesting, full of life, great descriptions & you feel like you're really there! Ending was both surprising & tearful, as I wasn't expecting it to end the way it did...I'm going to purchase this in Hard Back edition later..
