With the title race all but over, we continue our interest in other sports, with rugby and Gaelic football examined in depth this week.

Ireland have a perfect record so far in the Six Nations, but haven't been perfect all tournament. Their sternest test will come Saturday week, when the French come to town with a championship on the line.

The rules of Gaelic football continue to divide opinion across the country, with this year's leagues being used as a highly-publicised testing ground for the rule changes brought in by the Football Review Committee. Some tweaks will be necessary, with particularly heavy grumbling about the role of goalkeepers a huge talking point.

In a month dominated by rugby, we've gone against the grain by focusing on three football stories. We'll get back to the 6 Nations next week but for now, enjoy as we shine a light on the return of the League of Ireland, the Irish WNT and the cut throat environs of the Championship.

Another year, another appearance for the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Conor's decision to start supporting the Chiefs 12 years ago has brought unprecedented success to the franchise. We don't believe in coincidences here at WII HQ - it's clear he's solely responsible for their success. Standing in the way of a historic Chiefs three-peat is the Philadelphia Eagles, with the number 1 defense in the League, and a star at running back in Saquon Barkley.

February also means the beginning of the Champions League knockout phase. The new look format has thrown up an old classic in the standout tie of Manchester City vs Real Madrid. The two most recent winners will go head to head in a clash that UEFA definitely did not want to take place this early.

The Six Nations kick off this week and Team Of Us Ireland are attempting to complete a three in a row for the first time in championship history. France are the biggest obstacle in their way and look formidable, especially with the return of the most exciting player in world rugby, Antoine Dupont. We look at each team's expectations heading into this year's tournament, covering the main talking points that swirl around the Irish set up, including the battle for the 10 jersey and the new coach in charge.

"Golf is a good walk spoiled" is the well-known phrase, but the TGL (TMRW Golf League) are attempting to reduce the game to a non-walking, even lower impact sport. Big names, such as Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods, are spearheading this experiential and experimental new way of watching golf. A wide selection of pros battle it out in front on a huge screen designed to simulate a golf course - but will it attract a similar following?

The NFL season is reaching it's conclusion, with 4 teams remaining. Regular playoff contenders in the Chiefs, Bills and Eagles are joined by the Washington Commanders, who are led by rookie sensation Jayden Daniels. We'll find out later on Sunday who will be playing at the show on February 9th.

January is also the time when football clubs become desperate and splash cash on players in hopes of bolstering their squad. It's rare enough that January transfers work out long term, but it hasn't stopped a few Premier League teams from opening their wallets. There's also a couple of expected outgoings that are worth keeping an eye on too.

Two heavyweights are set to go at it again - and we're not talking about Conor and Cian. Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk will meet in the ring again on December 21st in the rematch of their highly-enjoyable fight earlier this year. Fury is looking to avenge his split decision defeat to Usyk, whilst Usyk will be out to defend his place as the man in heavyweight boxing.

On Monday, 96 top dart men & women will commence the long road to the World Dart Championship. Luke Littler and Luke Humphries were last years finalists and both will fancy their chances of taking the title home. We don't expect any other breakout stars like Littler, but anything can happen in the Ally Pally.

Speaking of the Christmas season, Manchester City are in a generous mood as they keep giving away points to anyone who plays them (except Nottingham Forest last night). What's going on at the Etihad? Rodri's loss is obviously impactful, but is it as simple as that?

Tiger Woods was back in the news this week, this time giving out about the LIV merger. Most golf fans would agree with his sentiment - bring back the best players playing each other every week. Cian has an amazing suggestion that might help solve the merger headaches that have seen the US Department of Justice step in.

As we stand on the cusp of December, we find the wheel of life in healthy and robust swing. With one title race ending (Formula One) and two just getting born (NFL & Premier League), there's plenty of sport to keep us on the couch as the mercury falls.

Elsewhere, Ireland WNT play Wales on Friday in the first of a two legged playoff to reach Euros 2025. Eileen Gleeeson's charges have a point to prove against their opponents, having lost 2-0 to them in March.

Katie Taylor has done it again. She triumphed over Amanda Serrano on Saturday night in Texas, but more importantly, outshone the mickey mouse fight between Jake Paul and 58 year old Mike Tyson. Whilst she may have utilised the potentially illegal Ballymun speed loaf move to gain the upper hand over Serrano, I'll not hear any begrudgers criticising the judges' decision.

Ireland have so far failed to catch fire in this year's Autumn Internationals, with a lacklustre defeat to New Zealand followed an unconvincing win against Argentina. Two more games are left in the series to rectify that, but it aligns with the overall trend of Northern Hemisphere teams struggling against their Southern opponents.

Jon Jones is back in the UFC, and is back with a vengeance. If you thought Taylor's headbutt was lethal, wait until you see the spinning kick Jones executed on Stipe Miocic to effectively end their bout over the weekend. We discuss what's coming next for Jones in the UFC.

Ride a painted pony, let the spinning wheel spin. The Ten Hag era at Old Trafford has come to an end. His replacement, plucked from the high intensity, high stakes cauldron of Portuguese football (just like his captain Bruno), is Rúben Amorim. His journey to the head seat at United is fascinating, and one we look at in depth.

Elsewhere, the #teamofus prepares to do battle once more as Ireland take on the All Blacks on Friday. New Zealand will be missing a couple of key members, but are sure to try their damndest to beat Ireland at home, something no one has done since 2021.
