Depression is a word that originated in the twentieth century, but as a phenomenon has been with us since antiquity.
For us, in a Biblical sense, and for our purposes, the Bible is rife with stories written in anguish, and it is the psalms themselves that display some examples that are rampant with outright depression. Many psalms are written by King David, who authored many of them during enormously blue periods within his life.
