There is an eye disease called "macular degeneration". You have noticed I'm sure, that when something goes wrong, rarely does anyone stand up and admit fault or take responsibility. Usually BLAME is the response, have you seen that? These next months in America will be difficult because it's an election year and the airwaves will be filled with blame and accusations. Of course, blame began in the Garden of Eden didn't it, when Adam blamed Eve and Eve blamed the serpent for disobeying God's instructions? (Gen. 3:12,13)  Sadly, we all live in the mess of our sinful world caused by that problem. Yesterday I left you with widow Naomi and her Moabite daughter-in-law Ruth beginning their trek from Moab, where Naomi and her family had moved to find refuge from a famine, going back to her home Bethlehem. With our attention drawn almost exclusively in 2022 to the horrific and devastating war in Ukraine; and now in the past several weeks, the tremendous devastation of war in the Middle East, the major issues of South America, Africa and Asia have rarely caught our attention. If I had to choose one word for the single priority issue in much of Africa it would be the word 'hunger'.  The organization "World Vision" declares: "Conditions are deteriorating across East Africa, where 7.2 million people are at risk of starvation and another 26.5 million face acute food insecurity. For the past 7 weeks the attention of our world has been riveted on Israel, the "Gaza Strip", the "West Bank" and other regions which are particularly volatile in the Middle East. In our "Walking with Jesus" over those same weeks, we've been looking at the Biblical history of this modern-day Israeli - Palestinian feud which so often, throughout history, has boiled over to extreme violence. You and I have both seen amazing things in our lives, but then there are some things we witness that simply leave us flabbergasted, dumbfounded, speechless. What was that last experience for you? I call our time together each day "Walking with Jesus" and I imagine the disciples who did walk with Jesus had those mind-blowing experiences often! I wonder if you've heard this phrase: "Either we learn from history or we are destined to repeat it." I admit, as a young schoolboy I did not like history, it seemed so irrelevant to me. I was far more interested in the present and the future. My how things have changed for me, as I now look at the present through the lenses of the past, to see if I can better discern the wise steps I should take as I go into the future. What about you?
