We've begun our 30-day journey to Bethlehem and Christmas 2022. In some ways our world is so very different from the world of that Christmas birth in a stable in Bethlehem. But would you agree the issues facing our human race, no matter where you live today, are so very similar to what life was the year Jesus was born! In fact, so many things about our human journey have changed very little down through the millennia.

For many of you today is a very special day... 'THANKSGIVING Day'! I grew up in a country outside the United States, but my parents are American, so even though we were thousands of miles away from America, on this day we still celebrated "Thanksgiving", when I was a boy. It was very special because many others, some Americans, some from many other countries, also lived in that foreign city and we all joined together for a great day of food, fun, friendships... and thanking God! Now, more than 60 years later, those memories of my childhood are among my favorites. I hope no matter where you are, that is your experience today, Thanksgiving Day 2022.

Have you noticed the closer something gets that you have been anticipating a long time, the more exciting anticipation becomes? We're now two days away from Thanksgiving, which is always celebrated the last Thursday of November by Americans no matter where they live in the world. That means Christmas is only about 4 weeks away and the new year of 2023 is now about 40 days away! Oh my, so many exciting things happening in these next weeks. But then there are things we anticipate for many, many years aren't there? Today let's rejoin our friend the apostle Peter as he describes something Christians worldwide anticipate not knowing exactly when it's going to happen.

Anticipation is a wonderful thing, isn't it? For many people this week has been anticipated for a long time. Thursday of this week for America is Thanksgiving Day and that normally means friends, family, food and lots of memories. It also means the next day is a crazy shopping day often called "Black Friday" because so much retail business is done that day many businesses find it vital to their profitability. And of course, Thanksgiving turns everyone's anticipation toward Christmas. I wonder what you are anticipating this week, my friends?

I wonder if you've ever been the recipient of a cherished trophy. We've all watched Olympic medalists receive their medal which honored their athletic achievement declaring them to be, at least at that moment, one of the very best in the world at their sport. Perhaps you've been to a home where you've seen a trophy case, or trophies on the walls. Trophies are treasures aren't they, but guess what... trophies decay with time, and the harsh reality is, others win trophies and records are broken and it isn't long and past trophy recipients are forgotten in the celebrations of new champions.  I'm happy to tell you all this is NOT true in heaven!

Yesterday I left you standing in heaven looking at two crowns which Jesus had in His hands, ready to award to those who arrive in heaven because they have fully trusted in Jesus Christ to save them from their sin condemnation. The Crown of Righteousness we saw in 2 Timothy 4:7,8 is a crown which celebrates the sinless perfection God awards to a sinner, saved by His grace, arriving in heaven to live sinlessly in God's presence for eternity! The Crown of Life, as we saw in James 1:12, is the crown which celebrates being alive with God in His heaven for all eternity... for ever and ever! This eternal life begins the moment God saves us from our sin condemnation, but it takes on a whole new reality when we arrive in sinless, eternal heaven with God!

Crowns are something most of us have never touched or worn, but of course they have great significance on the head of a king or queen. Did you know there will be crowns in heaven? Today, as we continue following the apostle Peter as he is writing his first letter, I invite you to join me in considering what Peter meant when he spoke of "an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade, kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power..." (1 Peter 1:4,5) Specifically let's look to see what we can find out about 'crowns in heaven' as part of this glorious inheritance, and if you or I might ever wear one?

My guess is you have a special day that you celebrate every year... just you, even if everyone else is oblivious to your celebration. It's your Birthday! Just that word... birthday... brings memories, doesn't it? I hope great memories, fun filled memories. Many of us have a second birthday. Sadly, many of us can't exactly remember the date on the calendar and we don't celebrate this second birthday every year. But the truth is, this second birthday is far, far more important than our first birthday. Can you guess why?

When you want to encourage someone with a 'blessing' I wonder what words you use? In the Jewish world, there's a very special word often used in a wide range of circumstances: SHALOM. Almost always the recipient of that word of blessing smiles, is deeply touched, and returns a blessing in some way. Have you ever had someone say that special word to you? How did you feel?
