  • 23.11.15 “The Judges Cycle” (Judges 2,3)
I wonder if you've heard this phrase: "Either we learn from history or we are destined to repeat it." I admit, as a young schoolboy I did not like history, it seemed so irrelevant to me. I was far more interested in the present and the future. My how things have changed for me, as I now look at the present through the lenses of the past, to see if I can better discern the wise steps I should take as I go into the future. What about you? In fact, here's a bit of old wisdom which I've found very helpful many times in my life:  "This is what the LORD says: 'stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient path, ask where the good way is and walk in it, and you will find rest for your soul..." (Jeremiah 6:16) (Click here to see full text, images and links)     Today's Scripture is Judges 2, 3. Choose below to read or listen.Judges 2Judges 3Pastor Doug Anderson    “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus…” (Heb. 12:1,2)Have a comment or question about today’s chapter? I’m ready to hear from you, contact me here.

End of life words can be very significant if coming from a person you have highly respected, am I right? In recent weeks we've looked at several of them and today let's consider one more. Joshua is a remarkable man in the history of Israel, for he was the aide to Moses to whom the mantle of leadership was passed when Moses died.(Click here to see full text, images and links)     Today's Scriptures are Joshua 23; Judges 2. Choose below to read or listen. Joshua 23 Judges 2 Pastor Doug Anderson    “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus…” (Heb. 12:1,2)Have a comment or question about today’s chapter? I’m ready to hear from you, contact me here.

  • 23.11.11 “Finally Home” (Joshua 18, 19)
In recent weeks there has been a great deal of debate regarding the land of Israel and how to divide that region of the world so the various ethnicities, cultures and even religions can live in relative peace despite their vast differences and their historical claims for this being their 'homeland'. Over those same weeks, you and I have been walking the Biblical, historical journey to seek to understand God's perspective on this region of the world.  It's really quite amazing to view the recent events of 2023 in the region of Israel through the lenses of the books of Genesis, Exodus and now Joshua, and the historical events between about 2000bc and about 1400bc. (Click here to see full text, images and links)   Today's Scripture is Joshua 18, 19. Choose below to read or listen.Joshua 18Joshua 19Pastor Doug Anderson    “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus…” (Heb. 12:1,2)Have a comment or question about today’s chapter? I’m ready to hear from you, contact me here.

  • 23.11.10 “Caleb” (Joshua 14)
When we hear the word "inheritance" most often we think of older people who are passing into eternity and leaving to their descendants an 'inheritance', right? But what does it look like when someone receives their long-awaited inheritance in their old age? For the past several days we've been traveling with Joshua and the Israelites as they crossed the Jordan river, by God's miraculous power, on a dry Jordan riverbed, as God held up the flow of the flooded Jordan for many hours so 1 million Israelites, and all their animals and belongings, could cross over into the land of God's Promise. They spent their first few days at Gilgal celebrating the Passover in the new land and reconsecrating themselves to God. The past few days we've watched as Joshua and the Israelites began moving into the land, first conquering the city of Jericho. For the next several months they used Gilgal as their base and moved slowly inland as God guided them. (Click here to see full text, images and links)    Today's Scripture is Joshua 14. Choose below to read or listen.Pastor Doug Anderson    “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus…” (Heb. 12:1,2)Have a comment or question about today’s chapter? I’m ready to hear from you, contact me here.

  • 23.11.09 “Jericho HOPE?” (Luke 18,19; Mark 10)
HOPE is a wonderful word, isn't it? Events or People who bring HOPE are welcome in any situation, anyplace in the world, would you agree? REBUILD or RENEW are words of HOPE whether applied to a life, a relationship, an old building or even a city in decay, do you agree with that? Here's a powerful verse from God's Word that declares HOPE: "They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations." (Is.61:4) Who is the "THEY" and where are these devastated places, these ruined cities? (Click here to see full text, images and links)   Today's Scriptures are Luke 18,19; Mark 10. Choose below to read or listen.Luke 18Luke 19Mark 10Pastor Doug Anderson    “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus…” (Heb. 12:1,2)Have a comment or question about today’s chapter? I’m ready to hear from you, contact me here.

  • 23.11.08 “Disregard Warnings?” (Joshua 6:26; 1 Kings 18; 2 Chron. 17)
I imagine when you and I were small children, we received many warnings from adults who cared about us. Our parents, teachers, relatives, perhaps school principals or maybe even police. These older adults had learned important lessons in their lives and wanted to help us, so they challenged us to learn important things. Here's four that I remember from my childhood: * Put things away where they belong, even if you didn't find them in their proper place, then you'll know where to find them next time you need them. Did your parents ever tell you that? Here's another:* Leave things cleaner than you found them.  Here's another one:* Always be early, you won't live in the anxiety of rushing, and you'll always be prepared. And here's a fourth one:* Words can leave a deeper wound than physical injury. Be very careful with your words.

  • 23.11.07 “WHY Jericho’s Destruction?” (Joshua 6:8-25)
When you think about words like EVIL or WICKED or DEPRAVITY or DECADENT or BARBARIC what events or behavior comes to your mind? Certainly, our TV screens have been filled with it in recent weeks, would you agree? When you think about HOLY or SACRED or GOD HONORING, I wonder what comes to your mind? There is a huge contrast between those two categories of behavior isn't there? That dramatic contrast represents the dramatic difference between Holy, Almighty God and evil, wicked Satan and their opposite desires for the human race and life on planet earth.

  • 23.11.06 “Jericho!!” (Joshua 5:13-6:7)
In recent months our world has been shocked by two unprovoked, vicious attacks which have left thousands of people dead, scores of communities damaged beyond repair, and millions of people around the world living in great anxiety that World War three may be just around the corner. Thursday, February 24, 2022, Russian troops, tanks, artillery and rockets attacked several cities in Ukraine and that war has continued every day to the present, killing thousands and displacing hundreds of thousands who have fled for their lives. Saturday October 7th, 2023, Hamas terrorists attacked Israeli towns near the Gaza strip and slaughtered many innocent people before taking back to Gaza over 200 hostages of several nationalities. The war between Hamas and Israel has continued now for a month with thousands dead, thousands more displaced from their homes and entire communities destroyed.
