This is the first of a short series on traveling with dogs and even adopting one here in Baja California Sur, Mexico. I'll come back in the next episode with the legalities and a few resources for you. So listen in to meet Teddy, my new rescue pup and the organization that saved him from the local dump.

(P.S. It’s a little confusing but this is a new season yet I’m keeping the numbers going for the episodes. I’m calling it Season Two as the new focus in on my own personal travels, the places and people I meet, life on the road as well as offering excerpts from short story collections and published books of mine, stuff you won’t hear elsewhere.)
Have you ever thought about how to become a campground host? Or what's really involved? I'll tell you about how I got the job, what I do, and other anecdotes from life here in Colorado.
You'll also hear another short story of mine...as yet unpublished. This and the others come from a collection of shorts that I'm sending out to presses looking for a home out in the world.

Today, you'll hear about working as a camphost in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado as well as a short story set in the area. Enjoy!
I have written a cartoon book of my experiences and you can find a copy here: https://www.amazon.com/Camphost-Diaries-Sarah-Leamy/dp/B0DFTRQJPP
I have some rather interesting news: I am passing along the website into the good hands of Rachel Schinderman. Wanderlust Journal, the online resource for many of us to publish our travel stories will be under her care from this summer of 2023 as I focus my attention more on my own writing and travels. I also talk about Colorado where I’ll be the next four months which will be explored more on the podcast, sharing trails, events, kayaking, hiking and more suggestions. I read from Dan Koeppel’s book “To see every bird on earth” as I’ve hit that age when feathered flying things make me look up saying, oh pretty…
I also read a VERY short piece from Stay, by me, Sarah Leamy, (Madville Publishing, 2023) which is coming out this month and is an unusual travel memoir, a mix of personal anecdotes, fears, cartoons, links to music, and photos.
Thanks again,
Sleam

How have I gone this long without an episode on travels with dogs? Ridiculous! So, today you’ll hear a variety of voices with a focus on traveling with dogs. I’ll come back to cats another time, with stories from Stevie, my little feral bugger who explored national forests across the American West.
We’ll start with Lavanya Sunkara:
