Jesus once asked a man at the pool of Bethesda, who was waiting to be healed for thirty-eight years, if he wanted to be made whole. That seems like a horribly insensitive question. People gathered there out of desperation. They typically included the physically afflicted and the social outcasts. Why would anyone remain there, if they didn’t want to be well? It is possible to become so comfortable with something, that even if it is painful, it has become normal. The disruption becomes a dysfunction. Jesus wasn’t being cruel; he was just addressing the possibility that maybe the man was going through the motions of appearing expectant, but inside he had already given up. Have you begun to accept the unacceptable, because it has been so long, and you have just gotten used to it? Do you “want to” be made whole, or are you inwardly resigned. Have you lost the desire to get better? Have you given up believing that your situation could be changed, or your relationships restored? Jesus has come to heal your “want” as well as your “walk”. Hold onto your desire. Stir up your faith. Let today be the day that you get your “want to” back! It is God within you, both to will and to do of His good pleasure!
