Wargaming Recon

We’re all back after a well earned and enjoyed holiday. Adrian co-hosts whilst Jonathan leads the show into the roaring 20’s. If you’ve not seen them yet, we now feature a bunch of articles from authors new to the Wargaming Recon family. Jonathan and Adrian react to the articles that discuss hobby resolutions for the new year. Sprinkle in a Lumber Mill segment, details for the first ever Wargaming Recon Kickstarter, and hobby news to round things out.

LUMBER MILL

Sponsored by Things from the Basement

In this episodes Lumber Mill Jonathan and Adrian discuss the amazing ‘Quickstarter’ that Things from the Basement recently ran.

They also talk about how laser cut/etched can be so much more than just terrain, going from the beautiful boxes mentioned before to the Christmas Candle Holders

For us, perhaps most exciting of all is the fact that we are launching a Kickstarter to help fund the 2020 season of Wargaming Recon. To that end Jonathan reveals the Backer Levels and details what the Kickstarters goal is both in terms of monetary value and reasons for doing this. If you can, please back the Kickstarter we will use the money to make this years episodes the best ever, hopefully we can unlock some exciting Stretch Goals on the way.

Cigar Box Battle is at it again with a new type of gaming mat.  Their brand new satin mats are being Kickstarted with double-sided printing giving you two mat designs for just $99 USD.

Adrian weighs in on the classic teddy bear fur mat by Killing Fields Terrain (KFT).  The Wargaming Company (also a sponsor of Wargaming Recon) is the North American distributor of their mats.  Thanks to The Wargaming Company for providing the mat to us to review.

Both chaps review Cigar Box Battle's new satin mat material.  It replaces their previous plush mats (short teddy bear fur).  The satin material is one of the most luxurious and soft mats on the market.  It has many benefits over their old material.  Thanks to Cigar Box Battle for providing us with this new mat to review.

At last the MDF terrain segment has a name.  We share results from the naming poll.  The segment is now called the Lumber Mill and it is sponsored by Things From The Basement.  We'll rate and cover MDF terrain kits, discuss tips and tricks for building them, and warn you of pitfalls to avoid.

This time Jonathan asks you to learn from his mistakes when you build & paint the Yamashiro Mountain Fort Wall set designed and sold by Things From the Basement.  Subassemblies are very important.  Don't follow instructions blindly and try using spray paints to basecoat your kits prior to building the entire kit.  The Small A/C Unit & Vents kit from their Industrial range is highlighted for its unique design and construction.

This episode was recorded LIVE at the Maker's Game Fair 2019.  Thanks to Dave Valentine and everyone who made that event possible.

Killing Fields Terrain (KFT) is relatively new to the game mat world.  Their classic teddy bear fur mat has popped up on game tables all over the place.  Now, The Wargaming Company (also a sponsor of Wargaming Recon) is the North American distributor of their mats.

Jonathan covers the classic grasslands mat by KFT.  He shares what's good about it, what can be improved, and gives his recommendation on if you should buy it.

The MDF terrain segment (name pending Adrian being on the episode) is sponsored by Things From The Basement.

He also shares a neat technique suitable for mimicking concrete texture on MDF terrain kits.  He uses the Big A/C unit from the industrial range of Things From the Basement's products.
