In this series on OVERCOMING we will be doing a few episodes looking at Jesus' final words to his church.  His desire is for the church to overcome or to conquer.  Now some may think it doesn't really matter in the end, however, Jesus has some stern warnings to some of these churches if they do not overcome or fix the current problem that he sees.  The consequences of not fixing the problem and overcoming are eternal consequences as we will find out as we at each church.

For the church of Smyrna, there are not problems that Jesus points out in this church.  They appeared to be doing well.  But this wasn't good enough, because Jesus has said that we must endure to the end to be saved.  Jesus in his instruction to this church encourages the to overcome until death and they will receive the crown of life.  We will look at several different passages which reinforces this instruction Jesus gave to the church.

For the church of Ephesus, we find out they seemed to be doing everything well such as persevering, holding to the truth, exposing false teaching, and not growing weary.  But it appears in their focus to hold to the truth and refute the Nicolaitans, they somehow lost focus and left their first love.  If they don't repent, they are endanger of losing their lampstand and not eating from the tree of life.

In this episode, we will look at what God's says about who are the overseer's of the Church.  There is no model of a single pastor led church, nor multiple layers of leadership; but simply a group of Elder's with shared responsibility to oversee the church.  We will also look at scripture at why women are not allowed to be Elder's or to oversee the church and also the reason why God gives in His word.

In this first episode of 2, we will first look at the different positions in God's Church.  In this episode we will look at the fact that all those who are members of the body of Christ are all called servants.  One is not to be above another, but we all are to serve as God has equipped each saint with a gift of service.  In part 2 we will look at some are called to be overseers.

In this episode we will look at what Jesus taught regarding being servants and also look at what is written in other new testament books.  We will also expose the lie of this additional position of leadership call "deacons".  A deacon as we will discover is nothing more than a servant, all saints are servants, and the passages in 1 Timothy 3:8-15 is in reference to all those who are in the church both men and women.

In this episode we will examine a statement Jesus made twice regarding the synagogues of Satan.  Not only this, but God warns us through His word about how Satan does his work in secret INSIDE the churches.  He warns about many of the leaders of churches who Confess Christ, preach the gospel and the Holy Spirit; but they serve the devil and not Jesus.  They appear as apostles of Christ but are false.  They are inside churches and God's word says that you don't even notice.  What?  How can this be.  Grab your bible and let God explain through His word.

In this episode we will continue the discussion from the previous episode regarding saints being the temple of the LORD, as God desires to dwell inside of people and not buildings of man.  This episode will look at the examples of the early church and where they met.  The did not go to the temple or a church building to fellowship, but they met in houses.

In this episode we will look at what God says about the temple.  Many people are aware there was an initial tabernacle (tent) and then later a temple constructed which the Father would periodically come down and dwell in His Spirit as He would speak with Israel.  But this was simply a shadow of the heavenly realm and also a shadow of what God currently desires which is for His Holy Spirit to dwell in side of all His saints.  Jesus prophesied of the destruction of the physical temple and the establishment of his body as the new temple, which includes all true believers.  We are now to be the dwelling of the Father in the Holy Spirit.  We are now called the temple of the living God.

In this episode we will look at two different works of the Holy Spirit.  The first work I the initial filling in the life of a believer.  This occurs when a person is born again, receiving the New Heart and New Spirit discussed in scripture.  This allows a person to be freed from sin, having all sin removed, and to be able to live and walk in righteousness producing the fruit of the Spirit.  Separate from this, there is additional subsequent fillings where a believer receives additional power for the work of ministry.  This can be both manifested as a giving of a spiritual gift such as prophecy (prophet), teaching (teacher) or other gifts as discussed in 1 Corinthians ch 12 and other passages of scripture; as well as a single filling to support a single gift of prophecy or boldness in a teaching or  response if you are brought before authorities on trail for the faith.  God works in different ways and is not conformed to a formula.  In this episode we will look at different passages of scriptures to understand some of the different ways God works.

In this episode we will look at the command Jesus gave to do greater works than Jesus.  But how can this be?  Many people struggle with accepting doing the same works as Christ, which Jesus also commanded; but to do even greater works seems impossible.  Many people can't even comprehend what these greater works could even be.
