  • 16 Joshua 24:1-33 "How’s Your Serve?"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

Our text today closes out our survey of the book of Joshua.  Joshua 24 offers us a simple question: “How’s your serve?”  Twelve times in eleven verses in the middle of Joshua’s final farewell the subject of serving the Lord crops up.   Joshua made his decision, “as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.”  The people now had to make their choice.  That generation had stood with Joshua & had subsequently seen God do wonderful things, but now Joshua was going the way of all the earth & was not going to be there to prod them along.   Each family, each individual Israelite must now decide if they would continue walking the path of faith & faithfulness.  Friends, that is just where we are this morning.  We may have obeyed well in former days, but the issue at hand is today.  As for you & your house; right now: How is your serve?  Grab your Bible, a pen, & print out the downloadable sermon outline & study guide questions & let's get Washed in the Word!

  • 14 Joshua 22 "An 'Altar-cation': A Case Study in Biblical Conflict Resolution"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

The Psalmist reminds us How good & pleasant it is when brothers dwell together in unity!  But we live in a fallen world that is populated with broken people.   Often, hurt people, hurt people.  Sometimes even in our churches we will have interpersonal challenges. The question is how are we to biblically handle these challenges?  Today will be looking at Joshua 22 & an altercation over an altar.  It was one of those situations where each side thought it knew the intentions of the other (which is almost always a blunder). Rumors had started gathering steam & God’s people were within a hair’s breadth of going to war with each other. Thank God cooler heads prevailed.  So from this altercation over an alter we get a case study in Biblical conflict resolution.  Grab your Bible, a pen, & print out the downloadable sermon outline & study guide & let's get Washed in the Word!

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

Thirteen messages ago when we first began our journey in the book of Joshua we started with a simple statement “God Has a Plan.”  Today we are twenty chapters further in this great book graciously given by our Great God & with just four chapters remaining, God’s Word takes us back to that same subject but from a different set of circumstances.  Grab your Bible, a pen, & print out the downloadable free sermon outline & study guide & let's get Washed in the Word!

  • 12 Joshua 13:1-19:51b "Enjoying Our Inheritance"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

This is our second message in this passage & our twelfth in our journey through the book of Joshua.  Last time we examined these chapters with a God-ward focus, seeing that God is the Ultimate Promise Keeper.  This time we shall look at those same seven chapters but with a man-word focus.  In these 218 verses of real estate records, we have the twelve tribes inherited territories delineated in detail.  From these verses, we see what God graciously gave them.  The question is: “What did they do with it?”  Did they enjoy their inheritance or did they squander it?  More importantly, what can we learn from their example?    Grab your Bible, a pen, & print off the free downloadable PDF with the semon outline & study guide questions & let's get Washed in the Word!

  • 11 Joshua chapters 13-19 "Standing On the Promises"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

Today we are in Joshua chapters 13-19.  Most likely in your survey of Scripture you may have glossed over these 6 chapters of hard-to-pronounce Hebrew names & obscure tribal boundaries.  Joshua 13-19 is often neglected because it reads like a real estate deed, because on one level that’s what it is but there is oh so much more to explore.  In fact, we are going to invest two sermons to mine the riches of these neglected verses. Last time we were together we scarcely scratched the surface of a significant subject:  “Can we trust God?”  Our text today definitively answers that crucial question.  Joshua 13-19 resoundingly teaches that God is the Ultimate Promise Keeper.   Grab your Bible, a pen, & printoff the free downloadable sermon outline & study guide & let's endeavor to go deeper in Scripture together!

  • 10 Joshua 10:29 – 12:24 "Morality, Idolatry, & Fidelity"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

Joshua 10 examines the extermination of the Southern Canaanite Confederation.  Joshua 11 annals the annihilation of the Northern Alliance. Joshua 12 surveys the full scale of the slaughter stretching back to Sihon & Og’s defeat under Moses east of the Jordan to Joshua’s conquests west of the Jordan.  To many, these three chapters are some of the most troubling in all of Bible.  In our passage today there are three big ideas at play: morality, idolatry & fidelity.  These three big ideas lead to five philosophical questions we must unflinchingly answer.  In regards to morality the question is “How can a good God call for the annihilation of the Canaanite people?”  To put it more pointedly “How can a God who calls for genocide be our moral guide?”  The next topic that crops up is idolatry.  Those questions there are “What is idolatry” and “Why is idolatry so dangerous?”Finally, as we survey these 62 verses we are left with the subject of fidelity.  The question here being “Can we trust God?”We are in the deep end of the theological pool today.  Grab your Bible, a pen, & download the sermon outline & study guide questions and let's get Washed in the Word!

  • 9 Joshua 10:1-28 "Be Strong & Courageous"

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

The New Testament calls us to faith & perseverance.  Those are tall orders for feeble people in a fallen world.  In order to muster persevering faith we would do well to appropriate an Old Testament injunction.  Ten times in the Old Testament we are called “to be strong & courageous.”  40% of those occur in the book of Joshua & one is found in our passage today.  In this, our ninth message in the book of Joshua, we shall consider seven facets of being strong & courageous.  Grab your Bible, a pen, & download the sermon outline & study guide questions & let's get Washed in the Word!

  • 8 Joshua 9:1-27 "Lean Not on Your Own Understanding."

We'd love to hear from you. Text us.

Proverbs 3:5 famously declares:  "Trust in the LORD with all your heart & lean not on your own understanding…" You & I might be bright, we might be educated & erudite, but we are not God.  This is why Isaiah 55 reminds us: “my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD." As God’s people, it is critical that we lean not on our own understanding which is the central lesson of Joshua 9.  Grab your Bible, a pen, & print out the free sermon outline & study questions as we seek biblical maturation through biblical saturation by being "Washed in the Word" today.
