Brian Warning met a boat captain named Carlos during a mission trip to Mexico’s Yucatan. They fished together, laughed together, and then went their separate ways. What happens when God sends you somewhere for a reason you don't understand yet?

Greg and Vicki Syverson have served in Pachuca, Mexico, for 25 years. During that time, their ministry has grown from helping another church to planting three churches and building a ministry school focused on equipping everyday believers to do the work of ministry.

But their story has not followed the plan they expected.

When their mission agency told them to return to the United States to raise support, they thought fundraising was the reason for the trip. Instead, doctors discovered a brain tumor in their son. Soon after his surgery, Greg suffered a heart attack. Looking back, they could see how God had positioned them exactly where they needed to be. Then the financial provision they originally came to raise began arriving in unexpected ways.

In this episode, Greg and Vicki also share what they have learned about church planting without depending on one professional pastor, developing lay leaders, building a ministry school around family, and creating churches that naturally think about multiplication.

What can God do through one person helping a child they have never met?

Gilbert Mfitundinda grew up in southwestern Uganda. Through Compassion International, a stranger helped support his education. After college, while reflecting on 1 Corinthians 13, Gilbert felt God challenge him to consider what he could give others. His conclusion: little is enough when given with love.

Gilbert and his brother Edward started Love Restoration and a Christian school with about 20 children and two staff members. Today, the school serves more than 340 children with more than 20 staff and is developing a larger campus.

Gilbert shares lessons about sponsorship, giving, relationships, provision, and ministry growth—including why they slowed enrollment to build the systems and capacity needed to sustain the mission.

His story is a reminder to start with what God has entrusted to you, be faithful with it, and leave the growth in His hands.

What happens when you are 15 years old, barely trained, terrified of talking to strangers, and someone tells you to go into Chicago and start conversations about Jesus?

What happens when someone believes God can move—and is willing to step out and pray?

In this episode, Aaron Jennings sits down with longtime pastor and ministry leader John Burpee, who has spent decades in ministry and says he has traveled to 37 nations doing healing crusades and ministry work.
