Last week, we talked about our Spirit empowered witness. This week, we continue in Acts by looking at Acts 2:41-43, exploring what it means to be a Spirit empowered church.
Key Takeaways:
- Witnessing is not just a duty, but an invitation to participate in Jesus' ongoing ministry of redemption.
- The Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome barriers and be effective witnesses.
- Witnessing should focus on building relationships and sharing our personal testimony.
- There are practical steps we can take to initiate and guide gospel conversations.
We made it! This week’s message wraps up our 2 1/2 year journey through the gospel of Luke. What a front seat we have had to the life of our Savior – His words, His actions and His heart toward His people. Our hope as we finish up Luke is that you know and love Jesus more as a result of studying this gospel. In these last few verses in Luke 24, we receive our marching orders from our King. What a wonderful salvation we have received! We are to be witnesses to this gospel message as we live out our faith, loving those around us and to the remotest parts of the earth.
This sermon examines the story of two disciples walking to Emmaus on the day of Jesus’ resurrection. The passage demonstrates how recognizing Jesus rightly is key to intimate fellowship with Him. Jesus meets the disciples on their journey, listens to their pain, reveals Himself in the Scriptures, and is ultimately recognized in the breaking of the bread. This encounter transforms the disciples, leading them to boldly share the message that Jesus is risen.
Luke 24:1-12
This sermon focuses on the resurrection of Jesus Christ as the climax of Luke’s gospel and the foundation of Christian faith. The resurrection is presented as an unshakable historical fact demonstrated through Jesus’ honorable burial, the empty tomb, His appearances, the rise of Christianity, and the change in tradition to gathering on Sunday. The resurrection also provides believers with an unshakable living hope, as expressed in 1 Peter 1:3-4, offering the promise of resurrection life in the new heavens and earth with Jesus. Finally, the resurrection gives believers an unshakable everyday purpose to live faithfully, abound in the work of the Lord, and share the good news with others, following the example of the faithful women at the tomb.
