Biblical Fasting is a response to a sacred and many times grievous moment(s), not an instrument designed to get desired results. Is there a benefit to fasting?

Yes.

Is there a benefit to feasting?

Also Yes.

Silence and Scripture. Here is a piece of what our boy Hamilton has to say, "When I try to meditate, pray, practice silence, or read scripture, I am often distracted, confused, anxious, selfish, and even doubtful. It can be downright discouraging until I remember, oh yeah, this is why I need the Lord. And in needing Him, we are right where He wants us - at His feet doing our best to listen, to come to Him, to follow Him. Jesus loves us even with our faltering attempts in the same way a parent loves a child’s artwork when he or she comes home from school."

The act of abiding/ pruning may be the most vital spiritual practice there is.

This week, we hear from our voices within our community. They are... honest, gritty and helpful.

When discussing the “hevels” (ie. difficulties, mysteries, futilities, frustrations) of life, an important question certainly is…“how is God forming us?”

Perhaps, the more important reflection is… “what would those (who love us) say about God’s work in our lives?”

When we think of Church or more specifically "how we do church", the term "deconstruction" has become THE post-post modern buzzword.

Practically, there is a resonating resistance to attending church and trusting leadership.

This is not a new conversation. The book of Ecclesiastes has her issues as well and perhaps has her own deconstructive tendencies.

However, there are some helpful raw materials we need to build something beautiful together.

"Maintaining Control" reigns in the modern west. Thus, two cultural assumptions dictate that ways we operate:

1) Explanation - 'We deserve Clarity.'

2) Certainty - Causality reigns.

As always, God is never limited to our contructs. Timing and outcome was never ours to control...

Like the Ghana's SanKoFa, we are able to see the unpredictable hand in God when we look back as we move forward.

Our elders have the keen ability to see the Jesus who is with us.

As all of us age and our body changes, there is a slower pace the older generations can embrace. It’s a pace that the world ridicules (yet deeply longs for...).

What is the lasting gift of growing old(er)?

When we recognize our own propensity to elevate one day over the next…

When we place…

… the Weekend above the Work…

… the Release above the Routine…

… the Pleasure above the Pain…

… W.E. fail to grasp the God Who is With us on Monday and Friday.
