This week’s program is dedicated to Water. All forms of water have been sung about. The program starts with a poignant remembrance of singer Otis Redding (The Dock of The Bay) who was killed in a plane crash at the age of 26. Songs about rivers dominate the program from the Talking Heads (Take Me To The River) to Boney M (Rivers Of Babylon) and the Whirling Furphies with their tribute to our Melbourne river (My Brown Yarra). Brooks/Streams get a mention with Billy Thorpe‘s version of ‘I Told The Brook’ and duo Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers big hit ‘Islands In The Stream’ written by the Bee Gees. Two songs about the sea from the vault, complete the program – Country and Western singer Don Gibson ‘Sea Of Heartbreak’ and Phil Phillip’s only hit ‘Sea Of Love’.
