There is no doubt that God is different. He’s different than the common cultural perception of deity. He’s different than our small individual perceptions of deity. He’s different…and He’s better. The beauty of our “different” God is that He’s not afraid to work very differently in different kinds of people and in different ways. Sunday, we’re going to press forward in the book of Acts, and see how God is unleashing the church in a way that's different than you and I might expect. I can’t wait to see you Sunday!

The “hand" is a symbol that can be viewed in many different ways - a helping hand, a stern hand, a hand of correction, and a hand of affection. And all of these could be used to describe the hand of God. On Sunday, as we continue to dig into Acts, we are going to see that the grace-giving hand of God is always at work, moving in us to accomplish His kingdom work. Excuses Acts 15:1-35 In the early years of the church’s expansion there was a struggle with change. Jesus came on the scene and taught with authority a new way to live. He debunked the religious institution of the day for placing far too many rules that even the religious leaders could not follow. Shortly after Jesus’ departure the church started and change hit the early church. For some who were considered on the ‘inside’ it was difficult for them to change in at least two ways. First, it was hard for them to accept salvation through faith alone and secondly those who would have been considered on the outside can now be part of God’s movement without following any of the previous ceremonies or rules. God’s mission was going forward yet some were in opposition to what He was doing, they made excuses to try and prevent God’s mission from going forward. This Sunday we will take a look at those excuses and see how it is that we are to respond to them.

Christmas can be one of the most joyful times of the year. But for some it is a time a sadness. Many are left wondering, "does God care?" But, as William Barklay has said, “Jesus’ coming is the final and unanswerable proof that God cares.” Last week we looked at the humility that is taught through us through the birth of Jesus (Phil 1:26-2:4). This Sunday, we are going to be looking at how that incarnation screams about God’s deep care and love for us (Phil 2:5-15).

The Almighty God became a man. The infinitely powerful God, who is so vast that He can’t be contained, entered into the confines of humanity. The more I think about this simple Christmas truth, the more I am humbled by this kind of selfless action. In fact, humility is exactly the response that the Incarnation should invoke. For the next two Sundays, I’m going to be opening up the Bible to the book of Philippians where we are going to see how an incarnate God demonstrated humility, and how this should be a way of life for every follower of Christ.
