The Body of Christ needs to gain a balanced, practical and biblically sound understanding of the subject of prosperity. I pray this teaching today will help you maintain that balance as you travel the road of God’s best for your life.
3 John 2: Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. KJ Three distinct areas of life: 1) material, 2) physical and 3) spiritual.
NOTICE: Material and physical prosperity is dependent upon spiritual prosperity.
God is not against wealth and prosperity, but He is against being covetous (having or showing great desire to possess something belonging to someone else). Money must not have you. I Timothy 6:10: For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. Don’t let money become an idol. Don’t say, I can’t do this because I don’t have the money. If God has told you a specific thing to do, step out in obedience and he will meet you. Never let the fact you have no money keep you in bondage.
Isaiah 1:19 – If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken. God does not want us to put eating the good of the land first. Spiritual things must come first.
Tithing in the Bible is 10%. Tithing occurred 430 years before the Mosaic law. Genesis 14:20- Abraham gave Melchizedek a tithe (Hebrews 7:2 – Abraham gave a tenth) of all the goods he recovered when he went to purse Lot and deliver him. Genesis 28:22 – Jacob vows to give God a tenth of everything He blesses him with.
Tithing under the law: 1) Was Commanded – Lev. 27:30, Mal. 3:10-12. 2) For Levites – Numbers 18:21-24. 3) For the stranger, fatherless and widow – Deut. 14:27-29, 26:12-14, 4) To supply God’s house – Malachi 3:10, 5) To honor God – Proverbs 3:9-10.
New Testament – Matthew 23:23 – Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.
Luke 6:38 – Give, and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.
II Corinthians 8:9 – For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. Ps. 35:27 – Let the Lord be magnified who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.
We must believe and exercise our spiritual authority in the area of finances. 1) We need to claim what we need in Jesus Name. 2) Command satan to take his hands off our money.
3) Send out the angels (ministering spirits) and ask them to cause the money to come in. Heb. 1:14. If evil spirits have influence over human beings and we know they do, then good spirits or ministering spirits can influence people too.
We need to avoid abuses and false practices when it comes to giving. Gimmicks used at times to raise money for ministries are not biblical. If people are told that the money is to be used for a certain purpose and then is spent largely on other things, it is being raised under false pretenses.
