Short Discussion on the Preacher and Wise Counsel

Brother Harvey opens the study of Ecclesiastes with a short summary and discussion on the origins, authorship and main emphasis of this wonderful letter from a father to a son. King Solomon, like all fathers, desires for his son to NOT make the same mistakes he has. In this letter Solomon outlines the futilities of coveting wealth, prestige, and other worldly desires since they are all fading glimpses of the real treasures that await the children of the Most High. Solomon identifies the true meaning of life.

Look at Malachi 4:1-4 and the judgement of God. Why is the fear of the Lord so important? What can we learn about sanctification?

The Lord says that there is a discernable difference between those who walk in righteousness and those who walk in unrighteousness. We can see the difference in their attitudes, their investments, and in the rewards they harvest now and in the coming age.

Do the wicked prosper as the just? Is there a reward for faithfulness to God? What difference does it make if I obey the Lord or not? How many of us have asked why to the evil prosper? Can we find an answer here in Malachi?

What did Jesus say would be the cost of following him? Many who come to Christ try to come to him only as a savior, but they leave out the Lordship of Christ.
