On this very cerebral installment of the Way Too Indiecast, Bernard, Ananda and Zach have a meeting of the minds as they review Pixar’s latest animated adventure, Inside Out. The gang also pick their favorite “movie minds,” characters whose psyches, philosophies and/or thought processes they find particularly memorable, fascinating, frightening or even downright pathetic. Plus, an overview of our Best Movies of 2015 So Far list, and our Indie Picks of the Week.
Inside Out review
On this week’s show Bernard is joined by CJ, a.k.a. “The Dastardly Dissenter,” who lives up to his alliterative moniker by going head-to-head with Bernard as they review Sundance darling Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, which nearly moved Bernard to tears and moved CJ closer to the theater exit. The boys also share their favorite movies about making movies and take a look back at the year in movies that was 2015. All that, plus some ripe Indie Picks on this very contentious episode of the Way Too Indiecast.
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl interview
Inspired by the passionate reaction CJ received for his Mad Max: Fury Road review, Bernard and CJ discuss the value and (un)importance of critical consensus on this week’s Way Too Indiecast. Bernard also review’s Bill Pohlad’s new drama Love & Mercy, starring both Paul Dano and John Cusack as Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson at two separate junctures in his life. The boys also share their favorite music movies and offer up their Indie Picks of the Week on this jam-packed show.
Tu Dors Nicole review
Friend of the site Eddie Mullins joins Bernard today on the Way Too Indiecast to talk about his new film, Doomsdays, which comes out in limited release on June 5th. Bernard and Eddie also share their Top 5 Favorite Apocalyptic Movies as well as their Indie Picks of the Week. Stay tuned until the end of the show to catch Bernard’s review of Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland. All that and more on this week’s Way Too Indiecast.
Interview with Eddie Mullins
On this week’s show Bernard, Ananda, and CJ rocket towards the horizon in a decked-out war machine as they discuss and debate George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Also, Bernard makes good on his word as he and CJ finally discuss Make Way For Tomorrow, Leo McCarey’s 1937 classic generational drama. All that plus our Indie Picks of the Week on this high-octane, explosive edition of the Way Too Indiecast!
Reality review
Bernard has friends again! Some very special, very talented friends, as it turns out. Along with editor-in-chief Dustin Jansick, Bernard is joined on today’s podcast by filmmaker J.P. Chan and actor/director/editor/colorist/everything Andy Pang to talk about their latest film, A Picture of You. Also, in our main topic of the week, the boys share their favorite movie mothers in honor of Mother’s Day, as well as offer up their Indie Picks of the Week. Happy belated Mother’s Day to all the indie moms across the world!
Roar review
Bernard goes it alone in this week’s edition of the Way Too Indiecast, but have no fear: he’s bringing an extra dose of podcast love to the table (and a handful of Glade Plug-Ins, just in case it’s a stinker). Being that he’s Way Too Indie’s resident interviewer, Bernard shares two interview horror stories, one of which involves none other than the illustrious Jason Schwartzman. Plus, he shares his Indie Pick of the Week and asks the question: Is Joss Whedon indie?
So grab a seat at the campfire and join Bernard for some good ol’ indie story time (not because he needs the company; he’s been known to start forest fires and needs supervision)!
We’ve got yet another giant-sized show for this week on the Way Too Indiecast! Joining your regular host, Bernard, on today’s podcast are three familiar faces, plus one very special, very indie guest. Indie filmmaker Kevin Chenault joins the show in our first segment to talk about his latest movie, Different Drum, as well as share his favorite road trip movies along with Bernard and Way Too Indie head honcho, Dustin Jansick. After the break, we say goodbye to the boys from the midwest and welcome in Ananda and Zach to talk about the highlights and lowlights from the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, which just wrapped up. Plus, as always, our indie picks of the week!
