  • E2293: Is Politics Making You Sick? What the Studies Really Show 10/14
On this episode of The Dupree Report, Wayne checks each claim against the evidence. According to the American Psychological Association, 69% of adults called the 2024 presidential election a significant source of stress, up from 52% in 2016. According to a study in Politics and the Life Sciences, an estimated 12.5% of adults showed election-related PTSD-like symptoms after 2020, compared with a normal yearly rate of about 3.5%.

  • E2292: Impeach, Investigate, or a $5,000 Check? 10/13
Republicans say a Democratic House means impeachment on day one. Democrats say a Republican Congress means more of the same. The president says you get $5,000. Three weeks before the vote, who is promising what, and what does the record really show?

On this episode of The Dupree Report, Wayne checks each claim against the evidence. According to the Associated Press, the $5,000 “Trump dividend” would likely cost more than $1 trillion and needs approval from Congress. According to Reuters, House Democrats are planning investigations first, with impeachment an option and not the opening move. According to Courthouse News Service, this Republican-controlled Congress has already had the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, at 43 days.

Wayne looks at the strongest case that a divided Congress means gridlock, and the strongest case against it. According to Wikipedia’s list of acts, the 116th Congress, split between the parties, still enacted 344 laws, including the CARES Act. He explains what impeachment, a subpoena and a stopgap bill really mean. He also shows why the date that hits your life is December 11, when government funding runs out, according to Holland & Knight. He holds both parties to the same ruler.

A promise is not a plan. Know the difference.

  • E2291: Who Are We Protecting? Same Standard. Both Parties. No Free Passes. 10/12
Wayne looks at the strongest case that social media is wearing down our trust, and the strongest case against it.

A study of 25,000 teens found no link to anxiety or depression, while an Australian study found small risks, mostly for girls 12 to 13. He also explains the difference between a cover-up, a scandal and a slow-walk, and why each name on the list fits a different one. He holds both parties to the same ruler, including a federal judge's finding that the Justice Department "has conceded" it violated the Epstein files law, and a Republican-led House report on Biden's aides.

Three different words. Know which one you mean.

  • E2290: Is Expensive Gas Good for the Economy? Depends Who's Counting 10/7
Diesel just hit the highest price ever recorded in America. Gas is up about 47% since February. And somebody, somewhere, is telling you that's good for the economy. Is it?

On this episode of The Dupree Report, Wayne breaks down what's behind the fuel price surge and who's actually paying for it. According to AAA, diesel was $3.76 a gallon on February 27, the day before the U.S. and Israel struck Iran. It hit a record $6.53 on September 22 and sat around $6.31 on Tuesday. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports gasoline prices are up 27.4% over the past year, while real hourly wages are down 0.3%.Wayne looks at the strongest case that higher oil prices help the U.S. economy, since America is now a net oil exporter, and the strongest case against it. He also looks at why politicians in both parties have a habit of calling high prices a problem when the other side is in charge, and why "I don't know" may be the most honest answer in a political debate.

Oil companies can have a great quarter while your family has a rough month. The question is which one gets called "the economy."

  • E2289: WHY IS TRUMP NOW PUSHING MAIL-IN BALLOTS? 10/6
For years, Donald Trump attacked mail-in voting. Now, with the midterms approaching, he’s telling Republicans to use it. What changed—the principle, or the political calculation?

On this episode of The Dupree Report, Wayne breaks down Trump’s ballot reversal. In an October 3 video, Trump urged supporters to “vote early, vote by mail, or vote in person on Election Day.” On October 5, he repeated that voters could use either method, while saying he preferred voting in person. That’s a different message from a president who has repeatedly called mail-in voting corrupt—and has used it himself.

Wayne examines the gap between Trump’s words and actions, why Republicans are encouraging a voting method their own leader has spent years questioning, and whether this is a genuine change of position or an election-season adjustment. Encouraging supporters to mail their ballots is one thing. Abandoning efforts to restrict the practice is another.

  • E2288: The GOP Tightrope: Tough on ICE, Nervous About November 10/05
The Dupree Report is back, and it's going to sound different. With no co-host and no comfort food, Wayne puts the facts first and holds both parties to the same standard.

Today, Republicans are walking a tightrope on immigration. A record 50,925 ICE arrests were made in August, according to DHS figures, yet only 39% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the issue, per AP-NORC. Now, weeks before the midterms, a few Republicans are pushing back. Rep. María Elvira Salazar says enforcement has "gone too far." Sen. Roger Marshall wants ICE to work with local police. Cattle groups warn of lost workers. Wayne breaks down who said what, and why none of them is calling to end the crackdown.

Then Wayne turns to a bigger question. The Trump administration now owns stakes in private companies, and Trump has promised a $5,000 "dividend" if Republicans win Congress. Is it socialism, state capitalism, or just politics? Wayne gives you the facts, including how past administrations did something similar, and leaves the verdict to you.
