This week in Episode #695, I talk with Ethan Sacks, accomplished creator of comics including Star Wars, Old Man Hawkeye, and Midnight Suns, and his daughter and co-writer, Naomi Sacks, who are telling an allegory of a deeply personal time in their lives called A Haunted Girl. They have a Zoop.gg crowdfunding event going on until about Thursday, June 12.
This book was originally published by Image Comics and Syzygy Publishing, and this hardcover edition contains all-new behind the scenes features and is the ultimate collector’s item for fans of this acclaimed supernatural horror story. The book is described this way: “The fate of all life on Earth depends on a girl who doesn't know if she wants to live. Cleo, a 16-year-old adopted Japanese-American whose anxiety and depression drives her to suicidal thoughts, is fresh out of the hospital and trying unsuccessfully to reintegrate back into her old life.” This campaign went live on the Zoop crowdfunding platform, Tuesday, May 6th. This date was chosen specifically to coincide with World Mental Health Awareness month, due to the book’s subject matter. We explore how the series came to be, who the various characters are, and also talk about how these creatives worked together and what else they might have coming our way soon.
