  • Tom Rowland Podcast : #0014 - Ryan Nitz - Turning His Passion Into His Profession - Hunting, Fishing, Outdoor Film Making

Ryan Nitz is a 27 year old with a passion for the outdoors that is contagious and immediately obvious to anyone who is fortunate enough to be around him even for a few minutes.  For the past few years he has been funding his outdoor addiction with a well paying job in Florida pest control.  However, with his growing Instagram profile, he has had many opportunities to turn his   passion into his profession.

Recently Ryan quit his job, bought a boat, took a job as a turkey hunting guide and enrolled in Sea School to earn his Captains License through the US Coast Guard.  He has burned the boats and there is no going back.

Two years ago, Tom Rowland contacted Ryan after being introduced to him through mutual friend David McLeaf.  Soon the entire crew of Saltwater Experience were on their way to film with Ryan for the mega large snook that he catches.  The show turned out nicely and it became one of the most popular Saltwater Experience episodes ever.  Fans loved the story of this young man pursuing his passion and emails continue to pour in about Ryan Nitz.

Join in on this conversation about hunting, fishing, outdoor film making and much more.

  • Tom Rowland Podcast : #0013 - Derek DeYoung - Artist And Angler Living In Montana, Florida Keys And Northern Michigan

Derek DeYoung is a renowned fish artist who travels between Montana, Florida Keys (Big Pine) and Northern Michigan to pursue fish and get inspiration to reproduce them on canvas.  I caught up with Derek through Instagram and asked him if he would like to be a guest on Saltwater Experience.  He said he would like to do it but his schedule was very tight. We found a day and made it happen. Derek was one of my favorite guests and we became fast friends.  I knew I wanted to do a podcast with him, but it seemed like we had run out of time.  I offered him a ride back to Big Pine instead of his wife having to pick him up and we put on the headphones and hit record. I travel a lot and some of the best conversations I have ever had were on long drives across the country.  This drive was exactly that.  Derek is a great conversationalist and we talked about how he has achieved so much success in the fishing world.

  • Salt Strong Fishing : EP 40: How To Catch Flounder Like A Pro

In this episode, we have the flounder (aka fluke fishing) expert himself, John Skinner. If you've come across any amazing flounder fishing videos on YouTube (especially the underwater attack footage videos), there is a good chance it's from John Skinner. He has spent more time fishing for and studying these fish than anyone we know. He even wrote the book on Catching Summer Flounder. Enjoy the episode.
