Edith Nesbit, most well known for her children’s fantasies, also wrote novels, poetry, and horror stories for adults. This story, published in 1907, is a tale seemingly of four women telling stories near the Solstice. And certainly the story is scary enough. But there is subtext here, as well, in old Miss Eastwich’s telling. What details is she omitting? glossing over?
