More than half of American voters -- 52% -- say they or someone in their household owns a gun, per the latest NBC News national poll.

That's the highest share of voters who say that they or someone in their household owns a gun in the history of the NBC News poll, on a question dating back to 1999.

In 2019, 46% of Americans said that they or someone in their household owned a gun, per an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll. And in February 2013, that share was 42%.

"In the last ten years, we've grown [10 points] in gun ownership. That's a very stunning number," said Micah Roberts of Public Opinion Strategies, a Republican polling firm that co-conducted the poll with members of the Democratic polling firm Hart Research.

"By and large, things don't change that dramatically that quickly when it comes to something as fundamental as whether you own a gun," Roberts added.

Gun ownership does fall along partisan lines, as it has for years, the poll finds.

This month, 66% of Republican voters surveyed say that they or someone in their household owns a gun, while just 45% of independents and 41% of Democrats say the same.

In 2004, a March NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 57% of Republicans said that they or someone in their household owned a gun, while just 41% of independents and 33% of Democrats said the same.

White voters tend to own guns at higher rates than Black or Latino voters, but gun ownership rates among Black voters have jumped in recent years.

Marijuana is on track to be a billion-dollar business in Maryland after the state legalized recreational use almost five months ago.

Entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the demand—including for private dinner parties where the food is infused with cannabis.

Chef Jazmine Moore is putting the last-minute touches on her meal, rubbing a compound butter with cannabis and spices on her spatchcock Moroccan chicken.

The table is set.

And the guests are just starting to arrive at the private home near National Harbor for a meal that is anything but ordinary.

"A lot of people are moving away from alcohol, and they are looking for more alternative ways, maybe just to relax and enjoy," said Moore, who goes by Chef Jazz. "So that's where a lot of our clientele finds us. They're looking for approachable ways to use cannabis, and what better way is there than a dinner party?"

Each course is infused with cannabis. 

Chef Jazz says you'll feel the equivalent of having a few glasses of wine by the end of the meal.

"Most of my dinner parties, I kind of say it's around two glasses of wine, like a nice red wine. Not too much. We do suggest people take ride shares and they have to sign waivers," she said. "I always say this: You don't have to be high to be healthy. If that's your thing, that's fine, but overdoing it, I'm starting to see that way too much."

She said she advises people to "know their numbers" and does consultations with her guests before each event.

"Make sure people are over 21, all that type of stuff, but also, 'Where are you? What's your relationship with cannabis?'"

The holiday season is almost upon us, which means that it's time to start checking things off your gift and shopping lists.   Holiday shopping deals have arrived early this year, with Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy all gathering in on the fun with shopping events, while Target wrapped up its weeklong event.  The holiday season can be overwhelming for so many reasons. Shopping the best early Black Friday deals of 2023 shouldn’t be one of them.  It’s easy to get drawn into a particularly good deal on a product you don’t actually need or plan on gifting, but think of it this way: You’ll save more money by not buying the item than you would by getting the discount.  Just because something is listed as a sale doesn’t mean the price is actually good. Retailers will sometimes mark up a product before a sales event, only to return it to its typical price as a “discount.”  Find a too-good-to-be-true deal on a product? It likely is. It’s important to make sure the product that’s on sale is the one you actually want, and not a slightly tweaked version with lesser specs or a poorer build quality.  Most retailers have extended return periods during the holiday season. So if you bought something already and then see a deal pop up, you can send it back and buy it again at the new, lower price.  You can’t stick to just one site or store if you want to get the best deals
