  2. Number 2: #310 Oxygen Hemoglobin Dissociation Curve Advanced: Oxygen Content, Delivery, Bohr Effect, 2,3-BPG, Shock

The oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve is a foundational concept for understanding oxygen binding, oxygen unloading, hypoxemia, and tissue oxygen delivery. In this episode, we review what the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve represents, how hemoglobin saturation relates to PaO2, what P50 means, and how left and right shifts change hemoglobin’s affinity for oxygen. Topics covered include: • What the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve is • Hemoglobin saturation and PaO2 • Oxygen binding and oxygen unloading • Why the curve has a sigmoidal shape • Hemoglobin affinity for oxygen • P50 and what it means • Left shift of the oxygen-hemoglobin curve • Right shift of the oxygen-hemoglobin curve • Temperature, pH, CO2, and 2,3-BPG • How left shift affects oxygen unloading • How right shift affects oxygen unloading • Clinical relevance of the oxygen-hemoglobin dissociation curve • Practical interpretation of oxygen saturation and PaO2 Watch the full video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioZCpTEfpN8 📚 Join the WhiteBoard Medicine Patreon Community https://www.patreon.com/WhiteBoardMedicine Join a growing emergency medicine, critical care, and resuscitation education community built around high-yield clinical learning. 5. Number 5: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) Basics - Diagnose, Manage, Trials | Clinical Medicine

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) affects critically ill patients and has a very high mortality rate. The management of ARDS is critical with a number of landmark trials to help guide that management. We talk about the Berlin Criteria used to diagnose ARDS including how to gauge ARDS severity. We then dive into the general management approach including tidal volume, plateau pressures, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation goals, pH goals, and more. Finally, we dive into the different landmark trials as a way to understand the management of ARDS. This includes the ALVEOLI Trial on low versus high PEEP, PROSEVA Trial on proning, ACURASYS and ROSE Trials on neuromuscular blockage (paralysis), ARDS Network Trials on tidal volumes and plateau pressures, as well as fluid strategies, and the more recent DEXA-ARDS Trial on steroids for ARDS. All studies linked at the bottom. 👇DON'T MISS OUT - JOIN OUR PATREON COMMUNITY TODAY 👇 https://www.patreon.com/WhiteBoardMedicine We appreciate the support! 📰👇SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE BIMONTHLY NEWSLETTER👍👍 https://whiteboarddoctor.m-pages.com/IAdAdI/wbdr-sign-up Stay up-to-date on the most important medical, science, and healthcare news!
