Khalid and Shaista Atayi and their three young children had a 40-day journey from Afghanistan to Boston. This week the family settled in Worcester.

Prematurely born babies can experience a range of negative health consequences later in life, and economists estimate the price tag of caring for them in the weeks and months after birth runs to at least $25 billion a year in the United States.
