Over the years, we saw the decline of independent bookstores throughout the New York Metro area. Now, we're seeing a rise here in our city and across the country. Some say that coming out of the pandemic book sales are up with people spending more time at home. And there's another trend -- where there are more places that have opened their doors providing books and also offering a cup of coffee during the day and a cold beer or a glass of wine at night. You can add the newly opened Liza's Book Bar on Smith Street in Carol Gardens to the list. And behind the bar, you're likely to find novelist and owner Maura Cheeks pouring drinks. It's been a busy stretch for Laura; earlier in the year, she released her debut novel "Acts of Forgiveness." Liza's book bar will soon begin to host book talks and paint-and-sip evenings. A new book bar that is building community.
