When the city's congestion pricing plan was first presented five years ago it was described as historic, transformational, and a great big boost to the environment. The plan would provide $15 billion of upgrades to bring our subways, buses, and commuter rails into the 21st century promising straphangers more reliable service. Last week the MTA announced that billions of dollars of work will now have to be stopped, this includes the purchase of $1.5 billion of subway cars, 250 new electric buses, the extension of Second Avenue subway to East Harlem and so much more. Our transit network is the lifeblood of our economy and neighborhoods. The congestion pricing plan needs to move forward. The alternative is our transit systems, roadways, and congestion only getting worse. I'm Rob Walsh for the Business Spotlight on WCBS 880 News.
