Pure sunshine outside right now meteorologist Mike Augustyniak has a look at our forecast really loving this end to the work week.
The bright skies are a huge improvement over most of April.
We are headed into the first of May and today is Arbor Day.
We hear about the power of trees which are beautiful. We know that but they also really help cleanse the Earth and they can help offset human impacts of climate change.
Trees remove carbon dioxide which is a pollutant in the air. They lower cooling costs by providing free shade and they clean other pollution out of the air and also the water.
We're talking about millions of tons of CO2 removed by trees just in the u.s. alone, hundreds of millions of gallons of storm runoff avoided and tens of millions of pounds of air pollution absorb.
When we talk about runoff, in a warmer climate with climate change, you get heavier rainfall, burst of rain, heavy rain, all of that can produce runoff that 2 goes into our waterways. It can carry garbage and pollution and chemicals so if you plant a tree that tree can only help stabilize the ground but also absorb a lot of that water.
If you look closely here that dark green. That's Ramsey County Minneapolis and St Paul. Trees here doing quite a bit of work. So plant a tree. It's not only pretty but you can save a bunch of money as well.
Temperatures today 50 in the Twin Cities with a light Breeze that feels pretty nice in the shade. It's feeling a little bit cooler overall are a few degrees cooler than they were at this point yesterday. I will show you cloudier skies that are starting to develop in Northwestern Minnesota to Red River Valley and parts of West Central Minnesota.
The state is reporting either partly sunny or mostly sunny skies but these clouds are going to continue to build East word with time through the afternoon and you see a little green here on the map particularly in North Eastern North Dakota.
A few showers are possible up in Northern Minnesota starting later this evening into the overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning but for the most part it's high pressure in control keeping things very quiet as this high slides East will get into a breeze.
Over all we could get to 59. On average five to 10 degrees cooler today than yesterday and below average as well.
