We first welcomed Chittenango Central Schools' Robotics program to Innovate to Educate in March of 2023. In this edition, we revisit with the program and Team 7157A - The Titans. Last year these students won two local Tournaments, and were state finalists at the Northern New York State Tournament. They earned a bid to the VEX Robotics World Championships in Dallas, Texas. This year they started off the season with a tournament victory and an excellence award at the first tournament of the season. "We live in the result of decisions made in the past." So says Bob Searing, Curator of History for the Onondaga Historical Association. Searing is this month's guest on Built to Serve. In addition to OHA's History Museum on Montgomery Street in Downtown Syracuse, Searing also supports the Ska-Nonh Great Law of Peace Center in Liverpool, the Military History Museum at the Onondaga County War Memorial, the Regional Aviation History Museum at Syracuse Hancock International Airport, and the "Brewseum" at Heritage Hill in Pompey. Searing and host Major Charles Roberts talk about how studying the past allows us all to be better citizens.

Dan Cummings welcomes Steve White to CNY Heroes. Steve is assistant director of Onondaga Community College’s Office of Veterans and Military Services. He is a Marine veteran who counsels other veterans and directs them to the range of services and opportunities for study and career planning at OCC.

Everything you always wanted to know about the sport of Women's Rowing on this edition of Central Current Radio, as Dr. Rick Wright welcomes Syracuse University Women's Rowing Coach Luke McGee. McGee talks about the historical importance of the sport to Title IX and women's athletics. He also talks about his background in crew, and how his team is already gearing up for the upcoming season.

InterFaith Works of Central NY organized this evening of prayer, song, and poetry to pray for peace in the world. The event was held at Onondaga Community College on December 4, in recognition that there are four terrible wars going on in the world at this time, causing much pain and anxiety for many in our community; as well as loss of life and destruction in Israel, Gaza, Congo, Sudan, and Ukraine. Faith Leaders and speakers from many traditions and from all of these regions offered their thoughts and prayers.

In 1999, Hassina Adams' family fled a dangerous situation in their native Uganda. Hassina grew up in South Africa, and came to the U.S. with her siblings in 2015 to fulfill her late mother's dream. Hassina is now a paralegal, serves as vice-president of the New Americans Forum, and is on the board of InterFaith Works. She tells her remarkable story of giving back to her community to Our New Neighbors hosts Ibrahim Mohamed and Maryna Bagovska.

The Strathmore Speaker Series and Onondaga Free Library's November 2023 event featured New York Times bestselling author Adam Goodheart, discussing his latest book, The Last Island: Death, Discovery, and the Most Elusive Tribe on Earth. The book tells the story of North Sentinel Island, home to a tribe believed to be the most isolated human community on earth. The Sentinelese people want to be left alone and will shoot deadly arrows at anyone who tries to come ashore. As the web of modernity draws ever closer, the island represents the last chapter in the Age of Discovery–the final holdout in a completely connected world.

In this episode of North Words from NCPR, we chat with Kelsey Francis. The English teacher at Saranac Lake High School was so taken with Barbara Kingsolver's recent novel, Demon Copperhead, that she helped organize an effort to have the school's entire staff read and discuss it. Francis wrote a letter to Kingsolver to let her know how relevant the book's themes were to the North Country. But that wasn't the end of it - Kingsolver wrote back, and asked a favor of Francis. Later, Shankar Vedantam of public radio's Hidden Brain joins us to talk about the show's recent month-long series "Healing 2.0." And we'll meet Tiffany Soricelli. The Crane School of Music graduate had planned a life in vocal performance, but her career today is all about helping musicians and other artists better manage their finances.
