This edition of the Strathmore Speakers Series features a May, 2022 event with Syracuse University College of Law Professor Jenny Breen, who discussed the impact of the Supreme Court’s recent rulings on American politics. Looking beyond the well-publicized verdict in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, Professor Breen provided analysis of several of the Court’s lesser-known, yet equally consequential rulings. The deeply significant Moore v. Harper, was also addressed. Community FM is pleased to partner with the Strathmore Speaker Series, supported by the Onondaga Free Library. For the past 10 years, the SSS has provided more than 50 free talks to the Central New York community. Its mission is to present experts from a broad variety of fields to share their knowledge to inform and inspire.

The Syracuse Vet Center was established in 1979 following the Vietnam War, one several hundred set up across the country by the Veterans Administration. This edition of Innovate to Educate highlights another unique educational program that took place this summer right here at WCNY's Robert J Daino Broadcast and Education Center. The first-ever Visual Storytelling Summer Camp was a fantastic hands-on program for middle-school students in the Syracuse City School District. The three-week program was the brainchild of SUNY-Oswego Professor Francisco Suarez. Over three weeks, students learned the principles of storytelling, character development, storyline, plot and resolution; along with visual storytelling techniques like video recording, audio recording, and video editing. Sheila Dion took a part-time job as a "lunch lady" in her children's school and quickly noticed many students asking for extra food to take home with them. What started as a pilot program to help 17 students in the Phoenix School District now provides 40,000 meals each school year, helping hundreds of students and their families overcome food insecurity.
