Payton Otterdahl spent last season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Bison shot put team while also competing professionally with Nike. Now the former NCAA Champion is Olympics bound.

Defending champion Van Holmgren overcame a two-shot deficit late in the round with birdies on 17 and 18 to force a playoff with former North Dakota State teammate Nate Deziel. Holmgren won on the first extra hole, No. 18, with about the same putt that got him there in the first place just 20 minutes earlier.

Team East was dominate on Saturday, as the Shrine Bowl returns to North Dakota. The Red River Amateur Golf Championship returning to the Moorhead Country Club for its 56th year. Fargo Shanley alum Eric Anderson falls short in qualifying for the Olympics.

Local stars returned on the scene for the 37th annual Roger Maris Celebrity Golf Tournament. From former NDSU linebacker Kyle Emanuel to Warroad native and Olympic gold medalist Gigi Marvin, to three-time Stanley Cup champion Matt Cullen - a Moorhead native. All participating to help raise money for the Roger Maris Cancer Center.

It's safe to say everyone knows who Simonich is. Simonich committed to North Dakota State last June and followed that up with a prestigious Pine to Palm championship in Detroit Lakes in August. But there's one title that he wants badly. A state championship.

The Hawley Nuggets are headed for the state tournament with more than just softball on their minds. The Hawley softball team is back in the Minnesota state softball tournament for the first time in seven years, and the accomplishment isn't lost on the team.

A Fargo Shanley graduate, the 18-year-old Anderson closed his prep career this winter with seven North Dakota state championships in the 50 freestyle (3) and 100 freestyle (4). He earned a spot in the Olympic Trials with a second-place finish in a qualifying time of 23.03 seconds at USA Swimming's TYR 18 & Under Spring Cup in Des Moines, Iowa, on April 29-May 2.

West Fargo Sheyenne has never won a team title or crowned an individual champion. After finishing third in the EDC Tournament, one of the tallest guys on the links that has his eye on the prize heading to Bismarck.

One dynasty continues though in Central Cass softball. The Squirrels defeated conference rival, Thompson 4-1 to earn the program's fifth Class B championship since 2012. 

West Fargo Sheyenne wins its first Class A baseball title.

Dickinson and Bismarck met in the Class A softball title game on Saturday in Mandan, both teams have never won a state title.
