Learning to Bear and Share One Another’s Burdens
Brother and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions, Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load.
Galatians 6:1-5
What does it look like to bear and share one another’s burdens?
1. We RESTORE
2. We CARRY
3. We OWN
4. We EXAMINE
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22
The power of the Spirit is being manifested whenever Jesus is becoming visible through us.
We RESTORE: When someone falls, respond gently.
If someone is caught [trapped] in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.
Galatians 6:1
For all of have sinned and come short of the glory [doxa] of God.
Doxa: to give others a correct opinion or estimate of God’s character.
The order is to restore us to our original design: created in the Imago Dei [image of God]. We are designed to bring Him glory [doxa]. Bringing him glory [doxa] is to live so that we give others a correct opinion or estimate of God’s true character.
Romans 3:23
They crush people with unbearable religious demands and never lift a finger to ease the burden.
Matthew 23:4
It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements: You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Acts 15:6-8
Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin.
John 8:11
But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted.
Galatians 6:1
We CARRY: We help with what is too heavy for others to carry alone.
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, YOU WILL FULFILL the law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2
Confess your sins [your brokenness, your generational weight] to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.
James 5:16
Confession + Bearing and Sharing = Healing
Four steps to bearing and sharing one another’s burdens
1. We NOTICE the weight
2. We LISTEN
3. We MOVE TOWARD the weight
4. We PRAY and remain PRESENT
A burden is something that has become too heavy for me to carry alone.
But my load is what God has entrusted to me.
3. We OWN: We take responsibility for what belongs to us.
Each one should carry their own load.
Galatians 6:5
We EXAMINE: We keep the mirror turned toward ourselves.
Each one should test their own actions.
Galatians 6:4
What belongs to me in this situation?
Jesus tells His followers: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."
John 13:34
Bearing and Sharing One Another’s is Evident When …
We RESTORE without condemning.
We CARRY without rescuing.
We OWN what God has entrusted to us.
And we EXAMINE ourselves instead of constantly evaluating everyone else.

Corporate Worship is Both Vertical and Horizontal
...teaching and admonishing one another... and...singing to God.
Colossians 3:16
When we are sing songs that edify one another:
God is listening.
And He is glorified.
Teaching says: "Know this."
Admonishing says: "Now do this."
“The experience that glorifies God is knowing God truly and feeling him duly. Knowledge that is true to God. Feelings that are due to God. We cannot glorify God as we ought without knowledge that accords with God’s truth and feelings that accord with God’s greatness and beauty and worth. Authentic experience of God must be knowing God truly and feeling him duly.”
John Piper
Knowing God Truly and Feeling Him Duly
Knowledge without affection is cold
The Lord says: These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught.
Isaiah 19:13
Affection without truth is shallow
Brothers and sisters, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
Romans 10:1-3
God wants:
A mind filled with truth.
A heart filled with love.
Worshiping Together Changes Us
Every time we gather to worship we believe God can radically change lives. That anything is possible.
Love asks: "What do they desire?"
Focus on Self asks: "What would I prefer?”
Not: "What do I prefer?"
But: "What has God asked for?”
God wants:
Your heart.
Your mind.
Your body.
When we gather to worship:
We exalt God.
We edify the church.
We evangelize the unbeliever.
Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He now showed the disciples the full extent of his love. It was time for supper, and the Devil had already enticed Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to carry out his plan to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him. When he came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, why are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You don't understand now why I am doing it; someday you will.” “No,” Peter protested, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “But if I don't wash you, you won't belong to me.” Simon Peter exclaimed, “Then wash my hands and head as well, Lord, not just my feet!” Jesus replied, “A person who has bathed all over does not need to wash, except for the feet, to be entirely clean. And you are clean, but that isn't true of everyone here.” For Jesus knew who would betray him. That is what he meant when he said, “Not all of you are clean.” After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because it is true. And since I, the Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. How true it is that a servant is not greater than the master. Nor are messengers more important than the one who sends them. You know these things—now do them! That is the path of blessing.
John 13:1-17
How is the One Another, Love, showing up in your life?
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
John 13:35
Love is a gift.
Love learns you.
But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self – control. Here there is no conflict with the law.
Galatians 5:22-23
Love requires personal Shalom (peace).
Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord. And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
Mark 12:29-31
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
Recovering your Shalom:
1. Turn towards God
2. Tell Him what you need
3. Thank Him for all He has done for you in your life
4. Trust Him with your need
Love was demonstrated for us to see.
So Jesus got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel he had around him.
John 13:4-5
So the Word became human and lived here on earth among us…
John 1:14
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing (or emptied himself), by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
Hebrews 3:12 - 14
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Romans 6:12
So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord!
Romans 7:21 - 25
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17
“The Bible teaches two themes throughout; the first is that we are created in the image of God and that we have incredible value. The second is that we are sinful and broken. There is the ideal, and there is the real. Both are true and both need to be reconciled into a grace giving relationship with God and others.”
Dr. Henry Cloud, Changes that Heal
When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus.

Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.
Hebrews 3:1
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.” The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my sheep."
John 21: 15 -17
“But what about you?” he asked Peter. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
Matthew 16: 15-18
Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.

Benediction:
Jesus,
Form us into people who encourage one another daily so that we will not be hardened by sin. Give us eyes to see opportunities, the courage to obey Your promptings, and the grace to love as You have loved us. May our lives reflect Your kingdom for the good of others and the glory of God.
Amen.

On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
He answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.”
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”
In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”
The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

• Removed them as far as east is from west (Psalm 103:12)
• Cast them into the depths of the sea (Micah 7:19)
• Remembered them no more (Jeremiah 31:34; Hebrews 8:12)
• Blotted them out (Isaiah 43:25)
• Washed them white as snow (Isaiah 1:18)
• Covered them (Psalm 32:1)
• Nailed them to the cross (Colossians 2:14)
• Canceled the record of debt (Colossians 2:14)
• Cleansed your conscience (Hebrews 9:14)
• Justified you completely (Romans 5:1)
• Reconciled you to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:18–19)
• Adopted you as His child (Romans 8:15–17)
What does this mean?
1. Forgiveness does not mean we sweep everything under the rug.
2. Forgiveness is not resuming a relationship without accountability.
3. Forgiveness does mean we release and trust God with justice.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Spiritual gifts are manifestations of God’s grace, distributed by the Holy Spirit to believers, through which Christ continues His work: edifying the body, bearing witness to the Kingdom, and expressing God’s love for others.
Spiritual gifts are the Spirit’s grace at work in and through us. Unique ways God empowers His people to love, serve, and build up one another, so that the life of Jesus becomes visible in His Church and in the world.
“The reality is, God routinely partners with us to get things done in the world. He reveals truth, but we have to preach it. He offers salvation, but we gather in. He shows mercy, but we serve the poor...God is the source of power, but we lay hands on people or speak commands that the power might flow to others.”

The Manifestation Gifts [1 Corinthians 12]
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 1. Theology of the gifts
2. Model for the gifts
3. Practice with the gifts
4. Intimacy with the giver of the gifts

5. Maturity into Christlikeness
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control...
Galatians 5:22-23a
“Here’s how this danger can begin. Your prayer life may be nonexistent, or you may have an unforgiving spirit toward someone, or sexual desires may be out of control. But you get involved in some ministry activity, which draws out your spiritual gifts. You begin to serve and help others, and soon you are affirmed by others and told what great things you are doing. You see the effects of your ministry and conclude that God is with you. But actually God was helping someone through your gifts even though your heart was far from him. Eventually, if you don’t do something about your lack of spiritual fruit and instead build your identity on your spiritual gifts and ministry activity, there will be some kind of collapse. You will blow up at someone or lapse into some sin that destroys your credibility. And everyone, including you, will be surprised. But you should not be. Spiritual gifts without spiritual fruit is like a tire slowly losing air."

Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one another, for that indeed is what you are doing to all the brothers throughout Macedonia. But we urge you, brothers, to do this more and more, and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

1. Love God
And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Matthew 22:39
2. Love Yourself
What does agape love look like for ourselves?
● Honoring our design as image bearers through our choices, actions, and words we speak to ourselves.
● Caring for the body given to us to steward.
● Protecting and guarding what we allow into our mind.
And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.
Matthew 22:39-40
3. Love Your Neighbor

Honor Through Attention
Care Through Hospitality
Protect Through Sacrifice
Why do we withhold from the depths of engaging in the agape expression of love?
Fear of Scarcity.
Fear of Man.
Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

Compassion sacrifices
Release the Record of Wrongs…because God has released yours.
“Forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you….”
Ephesians 4:30
God has forgiven…
Every sinful thought
God has forgiven…
Every sinful word
God has forgiven…
Every sinful action
God has forgiven…
Every sinful attitude
God has forgiven…
Every sin of omission
Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
James 4:17
Gods Response? FORGIVENESS
