In this episode of We Are Crayons - The Podcast we speak with filmmaker Ryan C. Khan who hails from Trinidad & Tobago’s twin-island republic. Ryan prides himself on being one of the many filmmakers emerging from the Caribbean, a new frontier for storytelling.
“I have a vivid imagination, and the ability to render those things out drew me into film making.”
Ryan received his first accolade in 2012 when he won the Tribeca/Worldview pitch competition at the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival. In 2013, he participated in the prestigious Berlinale Film Festival Talent Campus and the Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival Filmmakers Immersion Programme. A year later, his third short film How Many Times?was accepted into the 2014 Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.
Ryan began working in the advertising industry, directing TV commercials for major brands within the region. His directorial debut on a commercial came when he worked with McCann Erickson Advertising Group, on the B-mobile’ Giraffe’ spot in 2016. The work won Ryan and team six Gold Addy’s at the Caribbean Advertising Federation Awards and the Mosaic Award for diversity at the 4th District American Advertising Awards 2016.
