She is an inspiration for so many in her community, and in this episode, we go deeper into her own personal story of conceiving, birthing and taking in all that motherhood is.

She learned first-hand how essential it is to mother the mother and with her second baby, she made sure to give herself the space to heal, bond, and return to herself. The interview with Maya takes us deep into questions of balancing life and family, reconnecting to our identity as individuals, as well as nourishing the mother that we now are, and so much more.

In this episode, we focus on one of the bigger questions that inspires us at We Are Mothers - how has motherhood changed us or brought out something deeper inside of us. Emma’s piece focuses on the new kind of confidence that often presents itself with new motherhood as we begin to embrace the new part of our identity and life as a mother. After almost a year of having them live in our bodies, what are the first moments like when they come out? Tomi Nelkin shares a story that brings us right into those first days with her first son, Giulian.

There are so many ways to make a family, and this episode opens the space to explore some of those different journeys. We feature a story and interview with Kimberly Rex, which takes a close look at the experience of creating a family in circumstances that make it difficult or impossible to physically conceive and carry a child. What does the journey look like there?

The episode continues with an interview with Miriam Warshaviak, who was able to conceive and give birth to one child, but when her and husband tried to go for a second, they found they weren’t able to conceive again and so they turned to a surrogate to carry her younger two boys.

This episode features our host, Maya P. Ginzburg. Maya brings us into her choice and experience of birthing at home, juxtaposing the team aspect of it together with her husband andthe need to muster her individual strength, and ultimately waiting for her daughter to breathe on her own.
