Welcome to part 4 of our special Heart of the Vineyard series, where Caleb Maskell talks with John and Eleanor Mumford about the topic “The Main And The Plain.” John and Eleanor share why certain things like caring for the poor are “main and plain” in Vineyard churches, why we should be lowering the bar instead of raising it when it comes to engaging people in the things of the Kingdom, and the practical ways God engages us in His work.

John and Eleanor Mumford led the Vineyard Churches in the UK and Ireland for over 20 years.

They worked for nearly two years with John Wimber on the staff of the Anaheim Vineyard in California, before starting the first Vineyard church in Europe in 1987 (South West London Vineyard). In 2008, they handed over the leadership of that church to concentrate more on the Vineyard movement, both nationally and internationally, then in 2015 they transitioned the leadership of Vineyard Churches UK & Ireland.

In August 2026, they retired from coordinating the Vineyard Global initiative, which helps facilitate the growth of the Vineyard internationally.

John and Eleanor have two sons, two wonderful daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren!

David and Anita Ruis have been the National Directors of Vineyard Canada since 2014, while also continuing to travel internationally to speak and lead worship. A burning passion for the Ruises is both practical and theological integration of creative worship in church community, and deep life engagement with issues of poverty and social injustice.

 

David is a well-respected worship leader and songwriter, and has authored two books: The Worship God Is Seeking and The Justice God Is Seeking. As a team, David and Anita are also effective church planters and seasoned pastors, having established Vineyard churches in Canada and the US. David has also been instrumental in seeing Vineyard communities established in Nepal and India. Anita has worked in a variety of settings outside pastoral church work, both in addiction recovery work and community support roles. Much of the Ruises' focus has been in indigenous settings, working with people experiencing poverty and subsequent marginalization. They also have significant experience facilitating leadership development.

 

The Ruises currently reside in Kelowna, BC. In their down time they love to be creative and hang with their grandkids.

In this episode of We Are Vineyard, Jay talks with Caleb Maskell about a newly minted 8-part series called Heart of the Vineyard: what it is, how it meets the requests of people inside and outside of the Vineyard for resourcing, and our goal of resourcing people where they’re at in their journey. They discuss some of the things the Vineyard specifically has been given to steward for the sake of the world that we must freely give away, being sensitive to the Lord in each moment as we live Naturally Supernatural lives so that our relationship with the Holy Spirit is not formulaic or driven by our desired results, and the ways Heart of the Vineyard can be used in your local church. 

Caleb Maskell serves as the Associate National Director of Theology and Education for Vineyard USA, where he leads the movement's work in theological education, pastoral formation, and leadership development.

He has been in the Vineyard since 1995, serving as a church planter, pastor, worship leader, and theological educator in such places as Chicago, New Haven, CT, New York City, the Philadelphia suburbs (Go Birds!), and Denver, CO. He holds an undergrad degree from the University of Chicago, an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School, and a Ph.D. in the history of American religion from Princeton University. 

Caleb’s work is animated by the conviction that deep theological reflection and Spirit-empowered ministry belong together, and by a passion for developing the leaders and institutions that will make for a healthy, courageous, and hospitable future for the church in the twenty-first century. Caleb and his wife Kathy live in Denver with their two children, where Kathy pastors East Denver Vineyard Church.

Elba Dolan is a pastor, theologian, Christian leader, and author. Married to Steve Dolan and mother to Camilly and Alyssa, she serves as Senior Pastor of Vineyard Belém, Regional Coordinator for Northern Brazil, and a member of the national leadership team of Vineyard Brasil.

She is the founder and president of CDR (Centro de Desenvolvimento Regional – Regional Development Center), a non-profit organization dedicated to social transformation in Northern Brazil.

Elba holds a Master’s degree in Missional Leadership from Trinity Bible College. She is also the author of the book Kingdom and Discipleship, which explores the transforming impact of the Gospel of the Kingdom on disciple formation and the mission of the Church.

Throughout more than two decades of ministry, she has devoted herself to planting churches, training leaders, and strengthening communities of faith. Her ministry reflects a deep passion for integrating Kingdom theology, discipleship formation, and missional practice, equipping the local church to live out and demonstrate the Kingdom of God in tangible ways in the world.

Anabeth Morgan is a worship leader, songwriter, and one of the staff pastors at the Arvada Vineyard in Colorado since 2011.  She has been an integral part of Vineyard Worship as a leader, artist and writer, serving at Vineyard churches in Houston, Columbus, and Kansas City, and now serves as the Interim Lead for Equipping and Leadership for Vineyard Worship. 

Anabeth is deeply passionate about God’s presence and loves to lean into the Spirit of God in worship and prayer. Her ability to listen to the Holy Spirit, whether leading worship or groups of people, has given God the opportunity to do wonderful things in people’s lives. She loves sharing her intimate faith in God with others, enjoys being hospitable, and is always sensitive to the people and environment around her.

Anabeth has appeared on many Vineyard albums such as Cultivation Generation, Servant Wide Awake, My Foundation, Breathe In, Sing Out, and more. In December 2017, she finished writing and recording her first studio album A Place Your Glory Dwells. Recently, she has had songs “You Meet Me Here”, “Heaven’s Work” and “King of Heaven” released through Vineyard Worship, and has published other worship songs in collaboration with other songwriters.

She was married to Kyle in 2003, and they have two amazing children, Jovie and Miles.
