Big Band Bash

We Celebrate Black History Month Part 3

Listen Later

Black History Month was first proposed by black educators and the Black United Students at Kent State University in February 1969. The first celebration of Black History Month took place at Kent State one year later, from January 2, 1970 – February 28, 1970. We wind up our celebration of Black History Month with another program of assorted big bands and artists. We'll be hearing from bands like Benny Goodman with Charlie Christian, John Kirby, Louis Armstrong, The Ink Spots, Benny Moten and a few others. On this show I tried to pick some of the Black artists that I didn't play on the previous two shows. I hope you enjoy the music on this week's program as we wind up Black History Month. Thank so much for listening.
